Any suggestions on having a reunion in his memory to remember/honor a fine gentleman, fly tyer and fisherman teezer 05-24-2007, 07:34 PM Bill was my fly tying mentor. He look me under his wing and taught me much of what I know. As he was battling his second bout of cancer he called me one day and asked if I would take all his fly material. This was one of the hardest things I have every had to do. After I had removed all the material from his house, I would tie four to six flies of one pattern all slightly different. I would take them to him and we would discuss how well my copy was to his idea. We would talk until he got to tried to talk. We did his until he was to weak to continue. I just tied the Rhody Flatwing for the site's fly swap and used some of his materials. I still tie his fly as well as another past great fly fisherman Ray Smith's white water witch. I still have Bill's ashes sitting on my fly tying desk close to all his material. I never tie a fly without remember Bill. I m certainly up honor his memory. Great Idea. Thanks Eric JohnR 05-24-2007, 08:37 PM Eric, that is very moving. Old Saltfly 05-28-2007, 09:16 AM Hello Pete, I fished the Palmer twice this year caught one small shad. I fished Indianhead River (lot more shad) did take six fish, one going five pounds on my three weight. Been in Narragansett Bay and Gooseberry in a boat - fun catching cookie-cutter bass. Around hen & chicken was looking for a fifty pounder - no luck. My friend was trolling when his neighbor got a 51 pound bass. I often think Saltwater Edge would be the place for Bill's memorial. He loved and always spoke weel of Saltwater Edge. Funny me saying that Bill always spoke well of everyone, he never had a bad bone. He touched a lot of people. Pete_G 05-29-2007, 10:54 AM The shop is always available for that sort of thing Armand. Just let me know if you decide on a date. I visited the Palmer once this year. Just one shad. Seems like it's off it's high cycle that it has been on in recent years. Far fewer fish. Been fishing the Bay as well, impatiently waiting for the fish to fully populate the white water along the coast. There's great fishing in the Bay and I enjoy it, but fishing the suds by boat or shore is my preferred way to catch a striper... parker23 05-29-2007, 11:53 AM Heck of a guy. 1993/94 I was tying for CMS of N. Dartmouth at the 1st??? Wilmington/ Marlborough show. I was tying "my Bulky version of the flatwing and this guy started talking to me about the fly. He proceeded to give me a recipe for a “less bulky fly that resembled a small baitfish rather than a minuture scup. The next day he gave me a crab, shrimp and a “Peabody flatwing”and introduced himself. I had the flies mounted in a shadow box w/a small watercolor of a bass. I would be honored to participate; I can offer my business services (Printing and Direct mail) as well as auction items. Please contact me @ bruce@mailsol.com or business phone 401-822-2513 (tell the gatekeeper that it is a fishing related call) Please feel free to contact me.
