June is here and this is the month, or it has been for me, that coughs up some of the largest bass of the year every year. And we've had a nice preview of what's to come in this excellent May for big bass. #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&s 47, TO's 38 and 32, A few others fish over 40 that I know of.... This is one of those months where you can't miss too many nights... before the warm water starts to make the quest a little trickier. And as Bassmaster always says, this is the month to put the big needles in your bag...

I remember a night a few years ago when F18 and I went out on my birthday to a new spot in Southern RI that we had scouted over the winter, the date was 6/13/05. 2 casts from the rock and a flopping 30 pounder lay on the rock, Dave immediately launched his eel into the angry surf, his cast produced a 34. It went on like this for an hour all fish from 28-35 pounds. I went home at about 4am and had to work at 7 . But where do you think we were the next night? Couldn't happen again could it? Well, it did. As the tide turned, the hits lit up again and the fish were bigger Averaging 35 pounds and peaking at 39. All said we had 9 fish over 30 that night with a few in the high twenties and one rogue 34" fish .

Boy are you right. I had 4 fish in the low 30# range this morning and one that almost spooled a 7000 C3 before she threw the hook. Kept one that weighed 30lb 11oz.
There are some monsters swimming around RI this year!

You sure got that right Dave.

The same week in the same year some where in Rhody I experienced the same thing on back to back nights. It was unbelievable. My amazing encounters lasted between 2 to somewhere just over 3 hours each night. I was alone and in striper heaven. It was one of those things when you think to yourself should I pinch myself to see if I'm dreaming.

Nice post Dave. I think starting to fish needles in June might be my favorite event of the whole season. I'm heading north tonight with eels. Probably heading in the wrong direction but looking forward to it.
