Heading out to Nantucket tomorrow afternoon for a weekend of fishing......only the second time I've gone out there. Planning on checking out Great Point for sure, because that's where I fished last time and had decent luck. Would you guys recommend any other(well known, not top secret private, I'll shoot you if I see you there type) places?
If any of you guys with a bit more experience fishing on the island want to throw some friendly advice my way, I'd be more than happy to take it.
Also, if anybody has been fishing out there recently and has a report it would be appreciated. Thanks.
Planning on following this weekend up with a trip to the Chatham to Provincetown section of the Cape next weekend. After that it's probably Rhody for the duration for me.

Blitz,
After the disclaimer that from shore, the Vineyard is better than Nantucket, I can recommend a couple spots for you. You've got Great Point (beatuiful rip at the end ), Smith Point (nice rip) , Eel Point ( there is a bar running out a little to the right of that point (very soft, vehicle s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g sand, wathc out) and Brant Point... Schoolie Monster, our resident Nantucket veteran has done pretty well at Brant Point with eels for bass, probably one of the better shore spots, on the drop or the incoming, early morning tides... The south facing beaches often have nice stripers and blues from shore but the really good water is just outside of casting range... Beware of tourists fishing "Bill Fisher" custom glass Lamis with Penn spinners reeling upside down. They are not the locals and are not worth following to their "Prime Spots" ...

Thanks for the tips. I'd heard of one or two of those other spots last time, but didn't get there. I will this trip.
Great Point was nice for bluefish, which unlike many of you guys I don't mind catching all day long if they are available.
That said, bass are better and I'd like to get to some of these other spots since I understand they are better for bass than Great Point. I'll let you know how it goes.

Turned out to be quite an uproductive weekend on Nantucket, but lots of fun anyway:
1) Had one or two too many drinks at my buddy's 30th celebration on Friday night, so Friday night and early Saturday were washed out for fishing.
2) Fished all day on Saturday and Sunday at Great Point. Saw one bonito taken....that's it.Talked to several old timers, including one guy who was billed by several others as "the best fisherman on the island", and was told that fishing had been red hot up until Thursday and then completely turned off. These old timers were also catching nothing, so I felt a little better about it.
3) Fished Brant Point Saturday night......saw a 43 inch bass taken and nothing else. Tons of seaweed made the fishing pretty tough.
Amazing how different the fishing is out there, though, with many people going for the bonito, false albacore and albies that you don't get on the mainland. Several times I saw various plugs that I've never seen before...many which seemed to be homemade. All in all, plenty of fun and interesting. I will definitely go back, hopefully when the fishing is average or better rather than so sub-par.
Oh well.....next stop is the Cape on the first weekend of October. At least I feel like I know the water there and will feel a bit more confident on my "home turf."
