I'm having a little trouble with this... i snagged a few so far, and after pulling them in, I put a 2/0 trebel through his lower jaw, up through his upper.. but they seem to die almost immediately.. am I doing something wrong or should I try going through the dorsal?

maybe you are pinning the mouth shut, and no water can go through the gills???

often wondered about this...anyone have thoughts??

I always go thru the nose holes.

Bunker swim with their mouths wide open .
Like the Ghost in Scary Movie.
I don't like trebles for livelining. They don't hold the bait real well.
if ur bait is swimming with the line hanging down a good smack will free him of the hook.I use a Gami octipus 8/0 or 9/0..
U hook em from the driver side to the passenger side so the bend in the hook will not hook back into the bait.In front of the dorsal fin.

I like the big gami's as well. Hook through the nostrils, let swim and hang on!

I hook them through the nostrils with a single J hook and then put at treble on the tail held there by a rubber band. That way you get hooked up no matter which end is taken first.

With a treble, open the mouth, then insert the hook thru the top only, out between the nostrils. They will live fine this way.

4/0 treble, 1 hook thru the nostrils, 2 hooks up. works for me.if blues bite the back end off, let head sink to the bottom for bass.

Just in front of or just behind the dorsal fin. trebles will get you more hook ups than a single hook. Single hooks will hold better if you do hook a big fish. If you will use a single hook , use a wicked big one , like 9/0. the meat fisherman I know use the big trebles. Could even be 6/0 trebles?

lots of guys use a big treble and just let the fish swim as snagged. this is Ok if the bass are where you are snagging the bunker. If you need to catch bait , put in a live well and then move to the bass this doesn't work.

Don't use one that has been snag in the head or gills, they will die off quickly. Back, belly, tail good to go!
