Thought I would put this formula out there, since there is always alot of back and forth on sizes of fish - especially when your dealing with fish (hopefully) that are too big for the tackle shop scale.

(Length X Girth X Girth) / 800 = fish weight

This should give you the weight within 10%. This is especially effective on tuna, as they don't normally have any funky shapes (like a protruding belly on a big bass).

This is a straight line measurement for the lenght, not a curved, so you would not use a flexible tape for the length, but you would use one for the girth.

Hope there are lots of sushi parties for everyone this year!

Hey there you are.......do you have any in the boat yet?

That looks useful, thanks for the formula.

Hey Jon.
No tuna trips yet - ran some Cod trips and now we're doing well with the Bass.
I was going to go up there and look around today, but unfortunately Blown out (obviously).
All Bass this weekend, but might go Tuesday or Wednesday - may as well rig some of the macs I put up in the freezer.

That's the formula they use for marlin, not sure its that accurate for tuna.

I'm sure Jay wouldn't post the formula on here if it wasn't accurate (to about 10%). Try it out this year and let us know if the formula actually works....

Jay, do you rig the macks like you would with a hoo? Do you brine them before the freeze because I have a dozen or so that could use some rigging also.

ummmm yeah, that's the correct formula.

Tajon - email me sometime. I'm beat from fishing and I don't feel like dealing...
