Fished the incoming tide on the canal last night and fished into my first Canal blitz at the mouth of the herring run at about 2 a.m. I thought the herring stop running in May? The herring where getting airborn shooting our of the run and shoolies where nailing them. I landed 4 on a makeral patterned windcheater. All small.

Does anyone know of a technique to cast light lures like Bombers and Rebels a little further? I would hate to go lighter than the 20lb test I use now. Would fireline make a difference?

Try loading them with water or fish oil.

if you go braid... you can go with a 50lb power pro line and i swear it's thinner than a 20lb mono. my buddy has some. he can cast a mile. i always hafta ask what test it is cause it's so thin. i guess it doesn't start getting thick till 80lbs. which he might have to increase to cause he keeps bird's nesting when he casts on his new rod. it's just that light and quick.

I guess I missed the action. I hit some other spots first and ended up at the herring run around 4 am. Oh well win some lose some.
