View Full Version : Are you fishing more, or less?
nightfighter 06-26-2007, 06:28 PM As June comes to a close, I find that even with the addition of a boat, I have not been able to fish as much as last year.... Work has been taking way too much time, so we're shutting it down for the week of the 4th:bl:
So, how has this year been for you in amount of time fishing compared to last year, or past years? Has it been work, weather, fuel prices, family, or abundance/shortage of fish caught per outting that has affected any change? (I forgot to mention that parenting my 14 yr old twins has added more than their share of challenges, further restricting some opportunities to fish....)
Clammer 06-26-2007, 06:31 PM F @#$%^&*()_)(*&^%$ LESS :af:
BigFish 06-26-2007, 06:32 PM Well....I was fishing alot as the season started off with a bang!!!! Went to Cutty that week and the fishing sucked and I have been home a week and a half and find the fishing has turned very poor! Have been laying low a little.....going to the Cape for 2 weeks so maybe things will pick up there?:rollem:
Diamondwrapper 06-26-2007, 06:32 PM I fish a lot less now then in years past. Fuel prices have a lot to do with it, but I'm not as motivated as I once was. When I'm on the water I'm just as excited but getting there has been a problem.
buckman 06-26-2007, 06:40 PM I have never fished more then this year, 3 sometimes 4 trips a week. Striper fishing has been the best I have seen. We must have caught 200 + fish 20# or better!
Sgt_Nutz 06-26-2007, 06:43 PM Less! Fuel, work, fuel and family. And then work some more....
About the same amount of time but it's distributed differently. I've learned that more trips for smaller amounts of time actually disrupt my life (and the other half) less than doing a couple all nighters every week. I'm sure there will be more all nighters if the fishing starts picking up for me but so far that's what I've been doing.
JohnR 06-26-2007, 06:57 PM Way off - between being pretty busy and the bride's schedule I've done less than 20% of what I did last year :wall:
less. i had boat problems that kept me home 5/15-6/2. After that I was not able to get into my normal rhythm, and haven't been able too.
more this year but not durring the prime times that i would have the most confidence..
lookin for fluke mostly
Gunpowder 06-26-2007, 07:10 PM doin more this year but getting less than last year, go figure.
labrax 06-26-2007, 07:15 PM About the same. But the results have been poor. Even waxed the SUV and the wife's cars to make them slip through the air easier to get better gas mileage , plus wife is happier in cleaner, shinier car, which means more leash for me.
I have been trying to go to the Canal and focus on that to a degree, but I am frustrated with the lack of success and feel like a complete moron. I went up to Plum Island last night and fished the riverside. One fish for the efforts from 8:30 to 10:45pm and about $30 gas. Worse than the bugs was the invasion of teenage kids that like to light fires along the stretch of river I was fishing and then come down to talk and wade next to me while fishing.
Can't give up though - before I know it it will be November and I will be kicking myself if I did not make an effort to get out there and improve and at least try and catch some fish.
ilovetwofish 06-26-2007, 07:44 PM I started strong but fishing got tough and with sports for the kids and of course gas prices im lucky if i get out twice a week.Im going to start strictly night fishing this weekend seeya in ganset.
crash 06-26-2007, 08:00 PM Less, took a new job, working part time elsewhere. Now back on the job market to get out of the hole I dug myself into so thats gonna eat some time. The few free moments that I have are spent fishing.
redcrbbr 06-26-2007, 08:00 PM I have been fishing more and catching more small bass than I can remember. It could be that I am pluggin alot more than I used to. I have probably have about 5-6 keeper size bass so far this year all caught on eels.
tattoobob 06-26-2007, 08:07 PM I am not fishing at all, burn out from last year, I lost my drive
Squid kids Dad 06-26-2007, 08:13 PM Fishing less..Work sucks...
striprman 06-26-2007, 08:21 PM I've been 2 times. Went today in fact. Fished 2 rods with pogie chunks. Got some good practice, a small crab, a starfish and some excellent weeds.
labrax 06-26-2007, 08:27 PM tattoobob - maybe you can reinvigorate your fishing mojo by channeling your fishing desire into helping a desperate underperforming angler like myself. Sort of like a 'Big Brother; program for a frustrated fly fisherman turned surfcaster. If you ever want someone to go with - give me a PM. Not trying to learn specific spots, but I could benefit from learning from someone with a bunch more experience.
MarshCappa 06-26-2007, 08:53 PM I don't count the days but it feels like more than last year because of the skiff. As much as I love going out on the skiff, I really love getting in the surf so I'm going to try a pick up on that slack a little.
Finaddict 06-26-2007, 09:01 PM Overall it's been less, it started out as more, but then totally dropped off ... as things are starting to change on the home front, will probably do my own thing more ... but alas, the little one - I have been spending more time with her so that has been a decent trade off.
But Ross, I am happy to join you during the week of the 4th :laugha: to help you out with the boat :tooth: although I was thinking of a commando trip down to Fisher's for that day ... will have to see.
gone fishin 06-26-2007, 09:25 PM Less - I have a problem getting motivated with the plovers interfering! :realmad:

keeperreaper 06-26-2007, 10:37 PM Probably the same amount give or take.
Pete_G 06-26-2007, 11:00 PM I am not fishing at all, burn out from last year, I lost my drive
It happens. The drive will likely return with a vengeance at some point. :lasso:
Clogston29 06-27-2007, 07:08 AM early spring i was spending a ton of time working on landscaping at the new house. got that pretty much squared away and now I'm starting to get into the usual of trying to get out twice during the week and one all nighter on the weekend. fish are starting to cooperate - now we just need some bigger ones to show.
The Dad Fisherman 06-27-2007, 07:26 AM Much less, other than Cutty and the Invitational I've only been out 4-5 other times.....not good.
Scouts has taken up a tone of time from me this year....doing a lot more camping this year
JFigliuolo 06-27-2007, 07:45 AM same time...less fish
The Iceman 6 06-27-2007, 07:49 AM Less, I have to start picking up the pace....
Rockport24 06-27-2007, 10:47 AM now that I live closer to the water, I'm going more. It used to be just a weekend thing for me, now I am usually able to get out at least once during the week, then a couple of times on weekends.
ProfessorM 06-27-2007, 11:09 AM Same as usual, as much as I can, especially during the week in the boat. I hate weekends with the boat so I tend to use the tin boat on weekends. Fluke has really put it's spell on me that last few years.
EarnedStripes44 06-27-2007, 11:38 AM doin more this year but getting less than last year, go figure.
Singing the same song
piemma 06-27-2007, 12:58 PM I've been live lining bunker in the Philly Airport Concourse B for the last 2 hours. Nothing!!!
Actually, about the same as last year up untill last week when I went on the endless road trip.....which I am still on.
Thank god for the US Air Clubs where I can hide from the masses and get a WiFi Hot spot
Squibby17 06-27-2007, 02:23 PM I'm probably getting out a tad more this year but I'm trying to learn new spots as I work on the north shore now. So far Lots of dinks, I need to get some large Eels a good tide and a new moon :humpty:
I am ashamed to say WAY less...like not at all. My first cast for stripers this year will come in a about another week (vacation). Between work and home the last few months have been pretty brutal. I have almost considered saying that I am "taking the year off from fishing because its less depressing than saying "i cant find time to fish"!!!
yup this chicks had it and the countdown is on!!! 8 days, 22 hours, 43 minutes and 12 seconds .....................
GonnaCatchABig1 06-27-2007, 05:59 PM more.. i've been averaging about 9 hours a day fishing. sometimes only 6 sometimes 12.. and by a day i mean every day. i think i have not been out only about 7 days since the start of may.
yet i only have 6 schoolies and a blue to show for it :\
Karl F 06-27-2007, 06:13 PM less.. for a variety of reasons..
oh well..
Fall Run.. Look out.
piemma 06-28-2007, 08:36 AM more.. i've been averaging about 9 hours a day fishing. sometimes only 6 sometimes 12.. and by a day i mean every day. i think i have not been out only about 7 days since the start of may.

You are fishing 65 hours a week since the season started and you have caught 6 schoolies????
Man you are either fishing in a desert or you should take up golf. That's an awful lot of wasted time.
fishaholic18 06-28-2007, 08:51 AM I am not fishing at all, burn out from last year, I lost my driveI went thru a year of that too Bob. It'll come back.
