I don't make plugs, but I'm curious. Why are all the plugs with a single rear hook, made with the point closest to front of the hook [while hanging] rather than in the opposite direction? It seems that you would get more hook-ups with the point going away from the plug. The bass is coming up to hit it, and will then dive down. Is the reason because "that's the way we've always done it? Thank's in advance.

Single hook (Siwash) is for the blues that hit the rear. As well as two less hooks than a treble when taking a fish off the belly hook.
Stripers hit head on! While taking that fish off you don't want the rear imbedded in your hand.
The direction the hook hangs is personal preference.

Thanks Charlston. My question was aimed more at the direction of the point. It seems that all the plug makers on this site favor the point to the front. Just wondering why.

What do you mean by "point to the front?"
On a rear siwash it can only be hook curtve Up or Down!

When the hook is hanging down with the bend of the hook curved toward the front of the plug... I would call that pointing to front. Sorry I know that this could get confusing. One picture is worth a thousand words, but I don,t know how to do that with the computor. I'm still typing with two fingers. I think I should have said POINT UP.

fish hits from bottom, hook point down put the point deeper in the mouth of the fish, a side hit works the same...put a hook in your mouth its harder to stick your self hook faceing out than faceing in:cheers: unless the plugs hitting bottom,I put point up not to snag
