View Full Version : Time to crank up for next weekend!
JohnR 08-18-2002, 12:35 PM Ok, as just about everyone knows, next weekend is the Mass Striped Bass Assoc Charity Tournament benefiting the Shriners Children's Hospital - these are the people that do so much for Children's causes. This is a boat and shore Tourney for combined Bass and Blues with TONS of prizes. The details can be found here: http://msba.net/ & here: http://msba.net/pdf/TournyApp_large2002.pdf
I'm planning to fish with Schoolie Monster (dude - how you feeling?) in this weekend long tourney but excluding myself and current officers of the MSBA, any member from this site that participates in the Tourney and places in the top 3, I'll throw in extra plugs & lures from this site's stash :D . If the winner is a member of this site, a New Okuma Spinning Reel will be thier prize. So, what are the odds of winning? Well, 2 years of this tourney were won by a friend of BMs with fish caught from the beach, so the shore guy has a chance. Last year, Fisherwoman won from boat, and just missed winning an inflatable boat by a few ounces. Bass master (the boater, not the plugger :p ) won a couple years ago if I remember correctly (I might be wrong but what the hey :D ) - I would even be willing to have members vote a side pool for the highest placing S-B member.... :D
There is still a lot of open spaces for this tournament and the cause is just too good to pass up. It's not limited to MSBA members but open to all boat & shore fishing Mass Waters... A couple of our sponsors are weigh in stations like M&D's in Wareham and Ron's Sportsman's Den in Quincy. There are other shops from Cape Cod to Cape Anne that are participating. So I want to get everyone interested to sign up and join this tournament and the cause it serves :btu:
Anyone have any questions ?
Brooksie 08-18-2002, 01:59 PM If I read correctly Thursday is the last day to sign up so on Tuesday (payday) I'll be heading to Ron's to sign up. Hopefully my little good luck streak continues. Already have the go ahead from the wife to fish ALL weekend.

AveMariaCharters 08-18-2002, 09:26 PM STRIPER 1 HOW DID YOU DO IN THE ASA?
ALSO LIVE BAIT IS NOT PAYING OUT:smash:
TEAM AVE MARIA STANDING BY AND ALL WAYS READY
schoolie monster 08-19-2002, 10:35 AM Not too bad John... when I got up Saturday, it felt alot better.
I was concerned a bit, because of the nerve stuff, but when I got up Sat it was just muscle soreness. Did some light stretching, exercize... soaked in my daughter's little pool all day and tested it out Sunday morning with GS.
It felt "ok" and is "ok" right now. I wouldn't run a marathon, but I'll be able to fish. Of course, I could almost always say that.
I probably shouldn't have fished, but we had fun so it was worth it.
Physically, I should be able to go...
Beetle/Mike:
Will updates de available during the tourny so that people don't take fish that are "out of the money" anyway.
No need to kill extra fish.
JohnR 08-19-2002, 03:34 PM If they do what happened last year, people would ask what's biggest on channel 69 (I think)...
Thats why I was wondering, there could be some confusion or misinformation on the radio, (who knows who is answering or listening).
I was thinking the "amazing" cell phone would be the way to go, but i don't know what the plan is.
Tell you one thing,,, I am psyched already.
I may stop at Ron's tonight.
I saw in your other post you will register tonight, maybe I'll see you.
He had both XL and XXL shirts when I signed up last week.
Striper1 08-19-2002, 04:20 PM Mike..Bass master...
My brother did the ASA last week .
After 210.00 bucks for new water pump...
overheating:af:
He had a good time (look out for the sand bars!!)
He also says bluefish all over the place down there.
As for the bait around Here The Blues have all the bait on THE RUN:af:
Good Luck to all.....

TheSpecialist 08-19-2002, 05:59 PM I signed up at Rons tonite, I think I got the last xl.
I am ready.:D
BEETLE 08-19-2002, 08:36 PM Van,
Please bear with me as this is my first year fishing since I was 17 or so, and the first tournament I've worked.
According to the flyer, and what I've heard in Boston Haba channel 69 will be monitored as usual, and standings will be announced/updated throughout the weekend on the MSBA HOTLINE (617) 984-0530. Also, I think the phone is the way to go - especially on the weekend, - we'll have to swap #s.
If the shirts are running low, the store should get in touch with one of the coordinators - (on the flyer) and we will get more out ASAP (probably same day!!)
I have'nt mapped out a firm game plan to fish the 3 days yet, but it will probably involve the AVE MARIA, my own boat and maybe a little shore time.

BasicPatrick 08-20-2002, 11:27 PM The Tournament committee will attempt to get updates out over the radio ch 69 throughout the weekend. If the plans go as expected we will call weigh stations for updates each evening and make a good long announcement as to status on Sat and Sun Morning. Also if we get close to all the calls in we will release the current stats to the MSBA site, if possible and will post an update here as SB.com is a Sponsor of the Tournament. Pray that plans work out.

By the time you split the "grand prize" money between all your crew you may get $25 out of it.;)

TheSpecialist 08-22-2002, 03:40 PM Just a question, on the grand prize is there a limit on the number of blues one can weigh in with their striper? Other than the mass 10 fish possesion limit on blues.
JohnR 08-22-2002, 03:57 PM Just the biggest counts per angler, same with bass if you weighed in one per day...
I know this for sure.
if you have the biggest bass and a big blue, and their combimed
weight is the highest of everyone, you come out of the 20 places for each fish and win the grand prize only. (and maybe a side prize).
And its agreed you can weigh in 1 bass and 1 blue per day.
BasicPatrick 08-22-2002, 11:38 PM Well,
its 12:24 am and there is no shot of sleep before we meet at the Boat around 4:30....Thanks to all who helped make this years tournament a success (I Hope).....updates will be posted here tomorrow night
Gotta sharpen some hooks
