View Full Version : Surf Rod Roof Rack?
Striper_Haven_03 07-05-2007, 09:37 PM Im looking to buy a surf rod roof rack and was wondering if you guys have any recomendations. I know there are some locals that make them and would rather give my hard earned $$$ to them rather than to Thule or some other big name. Some of the racks I have looked at online seem cheap and filmsy.
Any help is appreciated.

Havent done any maintenance on them. When I wash my car they get cleaned, or when it rains. They are powder coated aluminum & everything else seems to be a high quality stainless.
Finaddict 07-06-2007, 10:46 AM Don't go Thule ... I have the rod rack ... actually purchased it from Mad Dog, it's not bad, but does not compare to some of the other models you can get on the market ... go with the ones the guys suggested above ... I think the Thule rack is better for fly rods than larger saltwater rods ...would not buy one again ...
The rod vault on SOL teamed with some yakima or thule bars seems like a good option to me. if you don't care about them locking you can just use a 2*4 with cheap rod mounts.
Striper_Haven_03 07-06-2007, 04:33 PM Thanks for you help. If any one else has any suggestions that would be good. Although the rack mentioned above looks pretty good, a little pricey, but good.

Striper_Haven_03 07-08-2007, 09:41 AM Found a brand new yakima rack for $110. Just one question..is there a way to lock the reel? I know the rod cant be stolen but the reel would be exposed and someone could unscrew it from the rod. One ideas would be appreciated.
