I know some who have one. They do work. I thought of it but my mechanic told me not to. Said I was better off not drilling holes in the lower unit. Any ways I found a better way for me after I installed trim tabs. I have found tilting the motor up and putting the tabs all the way down works just perfect.

5 gallon buckets work too. 1 on each side with holes drilled into the bottom. Make sure you make the rope short enough so they don't get into the prop. You will also forget they are in the water more than once when you speed away:hihi:

I don't troll but like a slow drift when plugging. I have a drift sock that works well. However, Like they said above.. a 5 gal buckets w/ a ton of 1" holes drilled works great. 1 on each side of the stern.
FYI,
1. Remove handle: make new handle w/1/2” line
2. Tie a line to rope handle and cleat.
Add an additional line to bottom. The line to the bottom of the bucket will dump the water so you are not lifting 50#’s of weight.

I laughed me but off when I got back to port and found the bucket handle on the rope still in the water behind the boat."She was a bit sluggish for a while but smoothed out a couple hundred yards."
