I saw a fishing show about a year ago and it was some host and chad pennington of the NYjets at a deep spillway, "hero" QB broke 4 rods trying to set the hook like a basstourny angler. dont remember what they were using, try some tsunami shads or slug-gos

Down in PA I've heard live rainbow trout make the best bait for big stripers on the big fresh water lakes, some tackle/bait shops even care them as bait. Good luck.

Jig the bottom like the canal. Use soft plastics (big finess, sluggos, bassassassins, ebens, etc.) experiment with the jig heads. I would go 3/4 to 1 1/2 depending on the current, depth, structure of the bottom. Probably will be a bit late this time of year as the big baits move out. But for next year, cast out, feel it hit the bottom (barely), keep up with it bumping it off of the bottom as the current carries it. Hold on tight!!!

Put a live shad or pogey in front of them...
