got skunked completely yesterday in the harbor. This is only my second year striper fishing from my boat. It was the first time this season, on a real try, that I got completely skunked. I've been collecting some info about what i might be able to do better.... running my umbrellas deeper (for some reason i thought near the surface was best), im working on a water weight to slow down my tubes. And im gonna try stopping the boat and dropping bait more often. also, ive never tried snagging pogies. I've seen them a bunch of times and caught fish near them but never snagged em. not that this isn't enough to work on... but does anyone have any more advice or remember things that they learned as a newbie like me, that helped them a lot?

Snag some bunker, live line them hooked in the nose during the day, chunk them on a 3 way at night.
5 hours 1 blue, 1 sandshark...
sucked...

went out this evening to try out some new stuff on the boat. Got into the harbor pretty quick, getting out was a nightmare. since my chart flew out of the boat on the highway last week ive been sticking to areas i know perfectly. turns out im not quite as good when the fog rolls in and i cant find a single buouy. thank god for the trusty compass. ended up following the ferry back to the back river. lesson learned.

it ran out of batteries a while ago. since i mostly fish fair weather and almost exclusively during the morning/day, never bothered to replace them. again, lesson learned.

Good thing you didn't follow the ferry this morning as you might have crashed. Be careful around those ferries the captains are a aragant
bunch.
Have talked to them on radio and they feel the summer crowd is always in their way on their water ways.
I have had way too many close encounters with them over the past few years, some encounters have been way out of marked channels.
