This is a beautiful needlefish made of Brazilian rosewood, which was imported before it was put on the endangered species list. I got it as part of a trade with a guy on SOL, and although it looks great hanging on my wall, I'm not much of a collector and I could use some money. This guy makes gorgeous plugs, this one's got a nice hackle and bucktail trailer on the back that he tied. Definitely a nice, rare plug to have for any collection.
$65 shipped, paypal, check, money order.

Is this an eBay Rockfish needle ? .... he has that tail style.

I agree, the tail makes it look like it was made by Rockfish. But the hardware doesn't look like his.

The builder is a guy who posts on SOL as Sudsy, not sure if he's on this board at all.

How would sudsy feel about you selling his lures for roughly 4 x's his asking price?

As I said, I got this as part of a trade, I have no idea what he sells these things for, but he did mention that the last one went for $75 at some fishing auction, so I thought $60 was a fair asking price. Obviously you don't agree, so I suggest you don't buy it.

well it was a 'charity auction' ; i don't think you can compare what something sells for in one of those to e-bay ..???

thanks derf, I was gonna say the same thing

it's your plug, you can ask whatever you want
and you can try to get whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

It was just a question no need to get snippy. Apologies if you thought my question was out of line. :rotf2:

Yup, that's one of my Brazilian Rosewood needles.

I only build using this wood for special occasions like charity auctions.

Listed as endangered, protected by the Brazilian government, import and export banned in 1992. This particular piece of wood was imported in the late '70's / early '80's by the Kramer Guitar Co. to be used to manufacture the fretboards for their guitars and their Spector brand basses.

Every rosewood lure, all 3 that I've made so far, this 2 hook, a 1 hook, and a stubby, is individual and all hand made - no duplicator work, heavy wind on bar swivels, and tied with a furnace hackle tail - with the exception of the stubby needle I made for my Dad with a mink zonker tail :p .

I think this is the needle we're talking about and I know that this is the end stamp from the board it was made from.

With the exception of a few charity auctions I've never sold a lure so there's never been an asking price.

FYI, the blank alone to turn this lure goes in the area of $30+ online, if you can find one.

Thanks for the clarification Sudsy, I was pretty sure this lure was worth more than 15 bucks. I was unaware that it's one of only three ever made and the only one of it's kind. In that case I've got to keep it, I can pawn some other stuff to buy a new rod, plus it does look great on my wall! BTW, the other lures are excellent, definitely some of my favorites and mainstays in my plug bag. I haven't had a chance to really test the "special popper", just a few casts to see how it swims, I'll let you know what I think once I can fish it more. Thanks again!
