Mr.Macy will be happy to hear that the 2nd article was FOR the approval of the agreement the selectmen made with the tribe for a casino and money involved, there were 2300 for and one thousand something against :(

The agreement could have been written much better in my opinion and many others, and to more benefit of the town had they not rushed the thing thru. I don't see what the rush was anyway other than the elections are coming up soon. The issue in my mind should have been a question on a ballot for the whole town to vote on, not just those able to bear the sun and heat.

this is not a good thing for this town that has enough trouble balancing it's budget, they seem to be 6 million short constantly and that 7 million we will get will be eaten up long before the first quarter is placed in any slot machine :rollem: The town got famboozled.
I don't think that the federal goverment is even taking any applications for land granting anyway, so why the rush in the first place?:hs:

The 3rd article asked the question - does the town want a casino. the vote was clearly a resounding no. But this has no bearing on anything, except maybe Gary Marshall from the tribe got his answer that the town does not want a casino and if he is true to his word, they will go away. fat chance on that one:( I guess lots of the yes voters left the meeting or others realize that the casino will be bad for the town.

I think they can put slots in no matter what the town or state says, like they did in Fla. , but in order to get a full Vegas style Casino it is going to have to be approved by the state and that is not a slam dunk. I was listening to the casino stuff on the radio driving to work today . They were saying how the traffic will have a negative impact on surrounding towns and they have no vote or say at all .. They were also talking about State gambling houses..Try to snatch all that $$$ away from the indians and thier investors . What do you think .. If they were really serious about people blowing their hard-earned cash, they'd cap Lotto purchases at $20. How often have you stood in line for 10 minutes at Cumbies while some guy who got out of a beat-up 87 Lumina with a R sticker blew $50 on numbers and scratch tickets?

People in debt? Something new? Before they had casino markers, they owed it to Louie the Nose. Every corner drug store or newspaper stand took action on what they called the "n-word pool", which was determined by reading down the hundred dollar column in the daily race track handle figures published in the Record-American. The Town of Middleboro got the most lucrative deal an Indian tribe ever gave to a Host Town and now its up to the Town officials to do the right savings and spending to make it work.

The agreement is full of offshoot benifits to generate more $$.

The whole area will be able to generate from this, I feel the town should look for offshoot businesses to come in and generate a tax base off of them.

I feel Middleboro will be one of the richest communities around.

Mike, even if the town had a real town election yesterday and the question was on a ballot, I feel the results would have been much the same. the misinformed were tricked into believing that if the town doesn't accept the agreement that they would build the casino anyway and then we would get diddly squat. The pro casino people did a good job swaying people to their side with the help of the selectmen. If it passes all the things that need to happen, I hope a casino really does help this town, but I will believe it when I see it.
I grew up in Abington when there was no dept. store in town there either so I have no problem not being able to buy a pair of pants in town, it's not a big deal at all.Been here 19 years now, I have no plans to leave.

Everystep of the way will be a push. Casinos don't make a nickle until the doors open. So look at it from the tribes point of view; A couple of months here, a couple of months there and now the casino openning is delayed 6 months to a year or maybe more.

7/28/07 Mashpee Wamapanoag Tribal Chairman Glenn Marshall spoke to residents of Oak Point last night. He was asked the question everyone is asking.

It was the very first question, from a woman who asked:

"Months ago you said if you were not welcome, you'd go somewhere else."

Casino opponents have insisted that a "no" vote will result in the tribe no building any kind of casino in Middleboro

Marshall replied that first, the vote is about the contract. But, he does feel welcome. He said he was welcomed by the police, the fire department, the school committee and a poll that said 67% of the community wants him to come. He then said:

I agree with Mike on this and I'm sure everyone else does also. When all the corporations are in place that will do business with the casinos that are owned by the POLS or ah geez I mean the relatives :kewl: of the POLS, yes thats better, then the casinos will fly through any permitting process.

Something I heard the other day was that the Wampanoag were the first tribe to welcome white people to this country and the 563 tribe to receive recognition from the FEDS. Why do you think that is? My guess is our reps in Washington have upheld threcognition for along time. It should have been the first tribe to be recognized.

There will definitely be a lot of money coming into the town, but I doubt anyone will confuse Middleboro with Dover, Newton or even Canton and Sharon. Residents will start putting their houses up for sale and getting out so they don't have to deal with all of the stuff that comes along with the endless riches a casino brings. When the market is flooded with housing inventory, the prices will go down and the lower prices will bring lower income buyers. Look what has happened in towns like Randolph when houses became too affordable. Crime went through the roof. As for this money helping the town out of a deficit, do you think this is really going be the answer? If the town is mismanaging their finances now, why would it get better with the casino? It will still be mismanaged. It's like a gambler who goes out and blows his paycheck at the track, then goes home and empties the savings account. Then, he goes back to the track and blows the rest of his money. Having more money to spend doesn't make you any smarter. I'm sure the town will find a way to waste this money on things that will not help the residents.
