I noticed also that on large fish hooking them just inside the lip does not hold well!! Many a good fish has been lost to this. Dont get me wrong,I do like conservation but, I want every big fish I hook, Landed!! Thats the whole reason to fish.If its a fifty pound bass, I want him hooked to his arse!! JohnR 04-30-2000, 08:54 PM The big Circle Hook controversy... This is what I've come up with from using them. Not the best when fishing live eels. The times I tried them, they were not holding the fish by much, not to mention that the live eel feel and set just isn't the same. I also did not experience a better hook up rate. Just my own little test. However, some people that fish live eels do prefer the circle hook but that is the minority. Using chunk bait? Probably the best hook you can use. Much greater chance of the fish hooking itself than a swing and a miss. Unless you are fishing some more unique method, use the circle hooks. Personal feeling is that I'll use them with chunk bait but not with eels. Many people I fish with that have tried them feel the same way. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
