.....is better than nothin'. Needles are dull...but do the job.....here's my latest take on them. Maple, 6", 2oz, (8"/3oz proto on top) sink mildly tail down, swim rather than wake, can get 'em to glide too....like a sluggo.....with a fast jerky retrieve.......can't say the fish went crazy on the original....but I like the shape and action so we'll see.

Suprisingly similar action. I think the ratio of nose to tail weight, overall sink rate, and length of the nose slope have the biggest effect. The bouyancy of the extra wood seems to be canceled by the weight of the extra hook and the plugs swim much the same.

As for split rings vs cut hooks, I don't have strong feelings and use both depending on how far I want the hook to hang below the plug.

I'm just hoping they work half as well as Eddy's needles. Tall order though.

Those are Sweet....

They worked. Got two 40-42" fish snooping around peanut bunker schools. First serious fishing in weeks for me. Felt good even if my friend (thankfully not Flap) walked in further and outfished me soundly. Time to get out there guys....the glut of peanuts seems to be drawing decent fish inshore.

The perspective is funny, Eddy, the fish is bent. But I did measure it (fork length). That's the butt of a 10ft conventional closer to the camera. Tough reviving them when the water is this warm, I was suprised to find them there in numbers. I think your trip next weekend is looking promising. Consider putting some extra time in at the coves.....where the peanuts congregate. The fish were hitting big skin swimmers as well. The scent of bunker, even if small, must turn them on to big plugs. Lot of spearing around too. Take and try some teasers when you go. My friend had three plugs taken from him on doubles last night.

I gotta ask a question: the eyes, do they look up, down and straight ahead to tell one at a glance where in the water column they ride?

I was, but I got it all wrong. Plugged for bass early am, Lackey's to Pasque with very little action, then switched to Albie chasing which were here and there from Tarpaulin to WH but too skittish for any good shots with a flyrod. Ran back to buzzards bay @ noon and chased them there for a while, ended up blueballed......aaaaggggh. Looks to me like the afternoon probably would have been the better 1/2 of the day. Love/hate stuff, but world class fish on an 8wt. Missed 'em bad last year, but this year looks promising.
