View Full Version : Your Thoughts On The Fall Run! BigFish 08-19-2007, 07:30 AM Just curious, given the season so far, what your thoughts are on the upcoming fall run? Based on the season so far what are your expectations? I think its about to go off like a bomb!!:btu: capecodkid 08-19-2007, 07:34 AM With the amount of bait thats been around this year I think this fall run will be one to remember.:btu: fishaholic18 08-19-2007, 07:41 AM With the amount of bait thats been around this year I think this fall run will be one to remember.:btu: I second that. With all the bait in the Bay right now, it has no choice but to be an awesome fall run. Back Beach 08-19-2007, 07:46 AM Its already begun in some places. Last week in September/first week in October is usually best for me. August has been pretty strong this year too, unlike last year. Presence of bait is a secondary indicator to me as I've seen real good and real bad regardless of the bait present. Slingah 08-19-2007, 08:10 AM I think it has started.... and I am hoping for large to swim by my rock and take my offering... I will be throwing larger plugs and eels... Al in Westport 08-19-2007, 08:13 AM Just re-spooled my reels. I'm ready! Bring it on! :laugha: Al spinncognito 08-19-2007, 08:19 AM Up and running here on the North Shore. Working birds and busting bait have been seen every day this week. Local harbor chock-o-block full of bait. :wiggle: Temps in the upper 40's at night have caused it to kick off early IMHO... Tagger 08-19-2007, 08:50 AM Hasn't started yet .. Last year the bait hung up north of us and they had a party while we starved .. Not a sniff "local" last night 12.00am - 4:00am .. if your listening Joe .. for catching my earliest keepers this year has been lame arse .. havn't put usaul time in with family woes either tho , ready to give it ell now MAC 08-19-2007, 08:54 AM Wasn't happening where we were last night either.midnite to 6:30 crapola basswipe 08-19-2007, 08:57 AM Lotsa bluefish and working birds last evening. bart 08-19-2007, 08:59 AM tons of bait of all sizes in RI. fish are definitely starting to stage. weather permitting, should be a good one... spence 08-19-2007, 09:02 AM God I hope so...haven't been able to fish much lately and my spring was terrible. -spence basswipe 08-19-2007, 09:06 AM ...haven't been able to fish much lately and my spring was terrible. -spence You ain't kiddin'!Last night was the first time out in a long time. LOL i've been using a yak for over 10 years. But to me there is nothing like catching from shore.Plus i don't always bring the yak with me. Clogston29 08-19-2007, 02:31 PM Like every year, it will be good for some, not good for others. Just gotta get out there and try to be one of the ones who has a good one. If we get mackeral or small blues near shore up here, I have a good feeling. If the mackeral come too late and its just peanuts, probably not so great (size wise). I'll just keep going with my usual nighttime routine and try not to get hung up on chasing schoolies, well maybe alittle bit at dawn and dusk. t.orlando 08-19-2007, 04:55 PM Started already........and has been good. MrHunters 08-19-2007, 05:04 PM im hoping its one to remember. every spring i see all you guys talking about how its picking up but us guys up north still have to wait 2- 3 weeks, only because the majority of the posters are from ri and cape cod.. BUT the fall run, it's reversed... so i hope to post many big fish in the next couple weeks :) Tagger 08-19-2007, 05:42 PM I'll take a wait and see attitude because its not good to get your hopes up and get let down. Many a year the bait moved way out of reach and all you could do is watch the carnage and hope that the wind would blow the bait closer. that was me last year ... watched fish eat fish waiting for it to come to me ... nightfighter 08-19-2007, 05:44 PM Started already........and has been good. Yup. They're showing that their hungry! Feels like fall this AM, the college kids are off to school this week. Stupid fishing just around the corner. But gawd, I do love fishing these live pogies!!!!! hyefisherman2 08-19-2007, 11:37 PM yes nightfighter, we even started to get those fall days, and some of the maples around my house are just starting to change color a little bit. fall is on its way guys. RIJIMMY 08-20-2007, 08:08 AM I think late summer brings in a lot of bait. When I think fall run, I think fish on the move "out" of the area. This time of year usually brings bait and fish into the shore, but not on the move south. The run starts when the bait moves out and the fish with it. Finaddict 08-20-2007, 08:42 AM Last year, there were a few instances when big bass pushed macks to the beach and it was a hey day ... for anyone with metal ... now that I am armed with Pt. Judes ... you bet I will be there every chance, day and night with my wood and metals, as I don't want to skip a beat ... reels getting respooled this week, new leaders tide up, etc. EarnedStripes44 08-20-2007, 09:16 AM you guys down in R.I. are having all the fun. steve 08-20-2007, 09:20 AM Lots of bait around. Let's wait and see. Anything can happen! Hopefully it's better than last fall and most of this past season. Rockport24 08-20-2007, 09:20 AM well I've been in a state of striper depression from lack of catching lately so it better get good soon! Bronko 08-20-2007, 09:30 AM It better be good. The good news is, there is more bait around than I can remember. diklarsen 08-22-2007, 03:20 AM the fish kinda came and left pretty quickly this spring so im kinda hoping that fall run brings somebig fish my way and hopefully they will stay around for a while. piemma 08-22-2007, 05:58 AM In my past experience, no one can tell how it's gonna be. Sometimes they go by on the outside. Saw it happen a number of years. Mullet run in SoCo around the 15 of Sept. then it's hope for the peanut bunker to show up and stick. if they move quickly the fish will move with them. I prefer to stick with the places i know and not chase the birds and the reports. Bass key on the amount of daylight so they have a set schedule they have been doing for 1000 years. it doesn't happen early or late. It happens pretty much on the same schedule it always has. cheferson 08-22-2007, 06:15 PM Starting to look good! :wiggle: flyben24 08-22-2007, 06:58 PM i look down in the harbor and all i see is bait.... the bass are goin crazy already just destroying the peanut bunker and sandeels right in the harbor..... cant wait for the derby!!!:humpty: Backbeach Jake 08-22-2007, 07:38 PM I am seriously praying for an epic Fall. This Spring and Summer has been tireing and dissapointing to say the least. My boys are coming to Truro the first week in Oct. and I pray for a trip for them to remember... RIROCKHOUND 08-23-2007, 07:09 AM Ton of bait around. we need a fairly non-stormy fall though... seems like out of the last 5 years or so I can remember, the stormy falls, the bait stayed offshore... maybe it was just where I fished... vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
