:skulz: :rocketem:

they're spreading out

I think you'd be surprised to know that there are so many, there are a few spread out all along the coast in many places.

good luck, I hope they don't multiply up there:rocketem:

Ross,

I've seen a couple resting on your beach over the past couple season. Almost tripped on one of them. Scared me half to death.

Sorry to hear. It's only a matter of time before they start following you and taking your fish.

Grey or harbor? Harbor seals should be out there right? If the greys start taking over then we have a problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They typically show up late September and patrol the harbor here. Have not had a striper problem with them but they have snatched mackerel from many guys right at the dock. Blows your mind when they come out from under a float withing 6 inches of you and plunder your macs... :uhoh:

I saw them for 4-5 years, slowly building in numbers, going from the once or twice a year sightings to the everyday, and suddenly one year they started to seize on fish. Your local population will learn from the smarter-than-the-average seal, or the seal which moved from a different (i.e. cape) area, and then they teach the pups and start following the fishermen who feed them the most. Think big dogs that have to make a living on their own.

Saw one while trolling near Harding's Ledge last week. Thought it was a dogfish finning the surface...His (or her) head came up about 10 ft from the boat...stoppped the motor...we sat and looked at each other for a few minutes and it swam away...funny! It was small and grey in color...about 3' long. Not sure about the difference between harbor and grey seals but it was definitely grey.

I just saw one in Fairfield, ct a few hours ago. It was about 20 yards away from me. As it went under, I told my friend next to me who didn't believe me. About 15 sec. later, it saw about 3 feet away from him. He jumped back and thought it was some sort of huge fish.:biglaugh:
