I'll be staying in the East Beach area for the next week and my 2 1/2 year old son has been hounding me to take him fishing. Wondering if anyone knows a good way to get him on some small, fun fish like scup, etc... Not looking for specific spots, but general areas and ways to get him hooked up from shore. I haven't bottom fished since I was a kid, and can't even remember how to rig up for it. I've already got my night spots for the big (hopefully) fish picked out. Any help is appreciated.

FB - how old is your kid? Is he responsible enough to bring along a pier on the canal? Next to Sandwich Marina is OK to soak some worms for scup/choggies/flounder - go near slack... --- Edit - just saw he is 2 1/2. I would recommend highly the hatchery (below) but as far as fishing, I would find a local Sunny pond, bobber and some worms...

Bring 5 bucks in quarters and have your kid throw then in and see the fish explode ;)

well for a kid.... just go down to the bulkheads at the canal. Go to Joes and see if the back door is open walk in and ask them if they have any broken clams....( i used to work there and thers always broken clams). If the door is closed go in the front way and ask to buy them tell them there for bait. Take a freshwater rod and go catch all the chogies(sea perch you want) If you go over to the beging of the marina there might be some flounder sitting there on the bottom.:kewl: but i think your son will have a ball catching those choggies...theyl keep eating as long as you have bait..

If your 2 1/2 is anthing like 4 year old was at that age then I would not go near the canal unless he is tied to you.....Except near the parking lot on the East end near JOES..... Try the water right off the parking lot...

Sandwich Hatchery is a MUST..LOTS OF QUARTERS - No change machine ...Old Harbor - Sandwich town beach is good place for him to walk ...Swimming is OK for the incomming but be carefull on the outgoing tide....You could try Scorton Creek - Not the mouth of Scorton but up off 6a...

My kids last about 1/2 hour - I would go get a few meal worms and hit the pond in the center of town....Fresh water but the fish are there...This will get you the night pass to try a few spots on your own...

All you have to do is find the little short guys with white buckets and you will find scup they are called the bucket brigade.

In the center of town with worms and a bobber - sunnys galore nice park and check out the Thorton Burgess museum -Author of Peter Rabitt right o the pond.

GO TO THE TROUT HATCHERY (in Sandwich) AND TAKE QUARTERS TO FEED THE FISH!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the nicest spots, bar none, on all of cape cod. Also check out the NOAA aquarium in Woods Hole. While you are there you can go fish off the dock at Quissett Harbor for guaranteed scup. Nice park/playground in Falmouth with a pond for swimming called Goodwill Park.

Just re-read my post - DON'T have your son throw in the $5 worth of quarters :rotflmao: - Use said quarters to purchase fish-feed pellets to shortly thereafter throw to feed fish :tooth: - like mentioned above, there is no change machine there so bring all the quarters with you. I also advise that you hide the last dollar or two of quarters to take care of the "Again, again, again" :hee:

You could try the Sandy Neck beach parking lot at dawn or dusk and have a chance of catching some fish blitzing baby bunker.

kids fishing,, fresh water is the best bet to hold there interest . Don't be surprised if they drop the rods and start chasing frogs ..
