View Full Version : Team Competition for the MV Derby
livinit 08-25-2007, 06:48 AM The MV Derby will be adding a team competition. It will consist of two man teams, must specify shore team or boat team (no crossover), it will run the entire length of the Derby, cumulative weight wins, all four species are eligible but a team does not have to catch all four species to qualify. For example, a team with one 50 pound bass will win over a team with a 20# bass, 8# blue, 5# bonito and 8# albie. This is the first year we are doing this. Prize will be a plaque for the shore team champion and the boat team champion. This will be primarily for chest pounding and bragging rights and the Derby just wants to add another competitive element. All the money for the team competition will go to the scholorship fund and as always the money is going to a good cause. If this takes off and gets high praises will see about more prizes and such. Cost will be $20/team. All Derby rules still apply. Ask about it when you register for the Derby.

yes, and still will not count toward daily pins, but will count toward your cumulative weight for your team.
JohnR 08-26-2007, 12:26 AM Should S-B field a team? Any interest? Discussion?
Back Beach 08-26-2007, 07:26 AM I'll be out there Oct. 4-7. Redlite may join me for a night, so I'd give it a go.
Swimmer 08-26-2007, 11:12 AM JR, if the teams consist of two-man teams will fishing for s-b.com be an option or just fishing with your buddy/team mate be what the derby means.
A whole new category after all these years in the derby will be much more fun, great idea.
tynan19 08-27-2007, 06:37 AM How many fish can you weigh in per team? Is it cumulative over the length of the derby or is it top 4 fish in each category per team?
nightprowler 08-27-2007, 09:58 AM great idea:claps: :claps:

It is the team's top four fish, one fish of each species per team. But you can upgrade your fish. So if your team has a 38# bass and your team member or you catch a 40# bass then it bumps your 38#er. So each team can have 1 bass, 1 blue, 1 bonito, 1 albie on the board at a time.
We will have a drop box at the Weigh Station and what you have to do if you want to add a fish to your team's weight is after you weigh your fish in with Roy or Charlie (the two weigh masters) and you get your weigh slip from Martha, you then take your weigh slip and drop it in the drop box. Each day a committee member, probably me, will pick up the weigh slips and do the daily tallies. We are working on how we will post the weights on the web site so contestants will know what they have to beat.
We just hope people will not weigh in a fish that will not help their team's cumulative weight. There are no pins, daily awards, weekly awards for this portion of the Derby, so no sense of needlessly killing fish unless it will help your team. Right?
