View Full Version : A question for the lawyers or smart people or smart lawyers

This question came up when I was thinking about how young I look. Even though I'm 18, I look like I'm about 13. This might be good later on in life but right now it stinks. So anyways. Suppose I was going to return a lottery ticket, say a 25,000 dollar winner. The owner not believing my age, destroys the ticket even if I showed him an ID. If I took him to court, would I win? If I did win, would I be reimbursed for the dollar ticket or $25,000? Kind of makes you think...

No Patrick, it does not "kind of make me think".
The only thing I'm thinking about is tides and wind and stripers and how the hell I'm going to get out of work!
At 18 there's only 1 thing you should be thinking about and it begins with a "P".

a P word eh? Puppydrum? Those P words can be hard to crack. Nah, I'm not like that. A true gentleman. <snicker>

#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, I realise that you are a moderator/administrator so please don't take this as disrespect. When you make a New Post, it gives you a choice of symbols that will be next to it. One of them is computers. I figured that if you could talk about computers, one could talk about anything as long as it was tasteful. If I was mistaken, forgive me.

I'll come up to see all of you in about 12 years, maybe then I will look old enough to buy you all a beer.

Patrick, um, just out if curiosity, why is this even a problem? You definately need to get out more often! I thought at 25 and newly married that MY life was getting dull! You ever get those people telling you that they would kill to be 18 again? and you think "yeah, whatever" well guess what, I used to think it was a crock myself but let me tell ya, I had a lot of fun when I was 18!!!!! Boy, would I love to be that age again, and I am not even old! (no offense to anyone of course...by old I mean like 100 or something!! ) Don't get me wrong I love fishing but don't miss out on all the other stuff!!!!!!!

No problems Patrick, just e-mail me when you get that ticket for a nominal service charge......
Take Mark's advice - you should be targeting P.You think catching a 50 is a challenge? Take an 18 year old that looks 13, no car, no job, if he can get himself a little - now THAT would be something!

Billybob, you cracked me up, good comeback. I'm pushing 50, so my teens are getting to be a blur, but I do remember it was fun, fun, fun, and I'm not refering to chasing 50's either, lol. Patrick, if your worried about legal issues at that young age, you need to get out more. I'll trade you some of your young looks, for some of my gray hair. Maybe that will help out your situation, lol.

Tight lines.

Patrick, pls e-mail me if you get the chance. I will now attempt to answer your ques.

I believe that any lottery ticket, be it an "instant" lotto ticket (scratch off) or daily numbers, state lotto, e.t.c. that is over $600 has to be brought to a lotto headquarters nearby, ususally a number or address is on the ticket somewhere. At least this is the way it is in NY. And if it was under $600 and the age verification was an issue, maybe bring it where you bought it? Or send it to the state address on the ticket and receive a certified check from them. If he did rip it up and you showed him positive ID you would be entitled to the money as the pieces remain of the ticket instant or regular and the bar codes on both are what authenticate a winner. I do not play lotto.

Jenn, I was seconding the motion of the above, er, ah, replies. Yeh, thats it!!!

BTW, JC is correct. Over $600 you would need to go to lotto central for IRS reporting purposes - that's why he got those initials

Alright folks, its still fishing season. Try and stay focused.

Patrick, dude, this is totally out there. I'm not saying we have to talk fishing 24/7, but try to keep it at least in the ballpark. Fishing, boating, and related equipment, regulations, experiences, politics, amusing anecdotes, outdoor activities in general, etc, etc, etc... There are thousands of related topics, but...

Speculation on someone ripping up a not-yet won lottery ticket... dude, this is kind of odd. I think you have too much time on your hands.

Hey, great job if you won some $$. Have a ball with it... buy a car, put yourself thru college, buy 20 G's worth of beanie babies for all I care! But the point I'm trying to make is this... we are all here to talk about a range of certain topics. Hey, if the topics stray from time to time, no big deal. I'm not the striped-bass.com thread police. I certainly don't have to read anything you throw out there.

But you have a habit of posting pretty strange stuff and then you wonder why people give you a hard time about it. If you've ever read my posts, you know I like to goof around and keep things light. We're here for recreation and fun and unlike some people, I don't take anything too seriously, especially myself.

I'm just giving you some friendly advice and asking you to think about this stuff before posting.
