Meet and greet:

Hi, my name is John and I founded S-B in 99 or so to be an online community for Striper and Fishing Finatics. I live in Rhody, fish for stripers from the surf when I can, do IT stuff for real work.

My son, now 6, loves to fish ;) - infact, I think we'll go fishing in a little while ;)

I've had a lot of great help and support for launching S-B & keeping it going - so thanks!

Hello:wavey: ,

My name is Mike. This is my 4th(maybe final) full season of surf fishing. I'm getting married next September. :o

I enjoy fishing from shore with plugs and eels. I try to fish at least 3 nights a week and have learned more in a few years on this site than I probably would learn in 10 if I had to do it the old fashion way.

I don't have any plans to ever purchase a Zee Baas and I'm also pretty sure boat fish don't count. :zup: :bl:

Hi my name is Bill and I've always been kind of a pacifist. When I was a kid, my father told me, "Never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it." I don't know what kind of fisherman I'm gonna make, but I want you guys to know that if we ever get into really heavy current... I'll be right behind you guys. Every step of the way.

I'm steve and i've fished most of my life. I worked a a commercial fisherman in chatham for about 2 years on a gill-netter for cod, haddock and monk fish.

My last season of striped bass fishing is this one due to my move to california this september. I'll be moving to Balboa Island in Newport beach and plan to focus on sailing for a bit until I can afford a boat on the west coast.

I love this site and plan to poke my head in occasionally. I've learned allot here and met some great people!

Thanks for a great site John!

Hi my name is Bob, i live in the desert. I know what water is for. One or two times a year i get to Hull Ma. to visit with my brother (rjinhull)and fish. We talk all the time as i fish VICARIOUSLY through him. I love fish porn. We talk long distance as hes fishing and im checking my sea chart to find him. I read everything on here to help me on my trips. Best trip had a mac have sex with my shoe (Does that make me a fishophile?), never washed it and kept going. big fish that year.

Hi,
My name is Mikey and I'm a rapper. I like to steal other people's fish and parade them down the beach.
OK, I discovered this site about 7 years ago while rehabbing from knee surgery in the winter. At the time there were about 40 members.
I would only talk to the Specialist, because anything else I posted would get harassing comments from the bassmaster, who now, strangely enough, is a very good friend of mine.
Lots of really good folks that I've spent lots of time with, most of which centers around harassing pictures, big blitzes, funny stories about my brother, and Portugese moonshine from a Sierra Mist bottle.
I usually fish North Shore, but also mix it up in Connecticut, Western Mass, the OB's with my bro, North Shore, then RI to finish it all up.
Recently I've travelled to Cutty to test the dfirst aid skills of Smokey and doc.
Well, that's about it. My name's Rick, look for the Bombardier sticker in the rear window.

My name is Larry! I have been fishing fresh all my life but started fishing for stripes about 10 years ago! The fever took hold quickly! After only 2 years I had a full blown case of striperitis.......had joined MSBA and become Vice President, had a 4x4 dedicated for only driving the beach and was fishing more than I was working!!:laughs: I was directed to this site I guess about 6 years ago??? I currently hold second place all-time for posts!:cputin: :rotflmao: I am chief cook and bottlewasher of a small custom plug building business called BigFish Bait Co.! I learned how to build wooden fishing lures from the many generous and gifted builders who frequent this site! It has become a passion and an addiction and I truely enjoy building lures and catching fish on them.....it is such a rush!! I just got married in July to the love of my life, Angie, and she also enjoys fishing! I have 2 sons from a previous marriage.....Larry is almost 15 and Nathan is 13! Larry loves to fish and Nathan hates it so it is a bit of a paradox! I fish south of Boston, Cape Cod and Cuttyhunk quite a bit! I fish 99.9% wooden lures.......it is the challenge of tempting a striper to take a piece of wood that I enjoy most!:kewl:

Well, I guess I'll follow suit, Hi my name is Jon and I found this forum a little while ago, with the intention of learning how to make my own plugs. I am down here in Falmouth Ma, I am in my first season of surfcasting and love it. I have been fishing most of my life, but never from the beaches until moved here. Prior to coming here I spent 18 months in Alaska as a fisheries observer aboard the longline, scallop, and king crab fishing boats. After that I moved back to Maine (where my wife is from) and worked as a sternman aboard a couple of lobster boats. That's about it. I also wanted to say that I am glad I have found this site, I have met a few people, but I really want to get more involved in plugfest, plugnight, and maybe hook up with a few people to do some fishing. Thanks!

Hi,
My name is Eric. I found this site through a friend at work. This friend happened to be the founder.

In my real life I am a principal of a middle school. This has cut deep into my second job as a light tackle charter captain. I used to be a math teacher with summers off.

I got into the fishing thing sort of backwards. I started out flyfishing. I now rely on friends to teach me the "dark" side of fishing. Eeling & livelining. I have been called Darth Vader this year. I like it.

I tie flies, build rod, and recently begun to build plugs. I enjoy the challenge of figuring these things out.

I run a mako 192 cc.

My name is Tyson, I'm 26 and do graphic design/Advertising for a living.

I've been fishing as long as I can remember. I grew up on the south shore and was lucky to have a great dad that always took me out fishing. My parents owned a house on the vineyard till I was 10 and they divorced and the house was sold. I still get out there at least a few times a year and always during the derby.

I recently moved to the north shore from Boston and couldn't be happier to go fishing in back of my place and mountain bike across the street. I have a 17ft whaler that I don't use nearly enough. I still prefer catching from shore. I'm not good enough to be a plug snob i generally roll 50/50 bait/plugs.

Hi, I'm Jim. I've been on S-B since April 2005. Not too much into the postings, but I like to read and learn. I was turned on to S-B by a long-time friend Chris L (MSBA President).

I do the website for the MSBA and am the one annoying people at every meeting taking their picture!!!

I have freshwater fished for as long as I can remember and it is still my passion. Stripers were always a second thought until a couple of years ago and now I'm hooked.

I've met a ton of cool, knowledgeable people through this site and through the MSBA. John R has helped me out on a couple of occasions, on the web, on the beach and through emails. He is one of the best guys out there!

Great website and I'm glad to be a part of it!!!:kewl:

Clueless
08-29-2007, 11:49 PM
Hi, I'm Mark. I'm 44 and live in Stoneham. I'm a software engineer.

Dad taught me to fish sweetwater when I was a kid, but I didn't appreciate the peace, quiet and relaxation, so I stopped. My sons love of fishing got me back into it the last few years, and we've been surf fishing for a couple of years now, often with Dad alongside us. I've been lurking and occasionally spewing my wisdom :conf: on this site for a little over a year now. In all seriousness, this place rocks, and I hope to know a tenth of what some of you guys know someday. :btu:

Some interesting facts about me:

- I chose the name Clueless so people would think I don't know what I'm doing.

- I do know what I'm doing though. In fact, I'm a legend. I know this because all the guys I fish next to know about me already, because without even telling them, they all call me by the same nickname a wise fisherman once gave me, "Googan". He said it's Irish for "master of the deep".

- I can kill a thread quicker than anyone. Watch how no one will post in this thread once I click "Submit Reply".

- I am the reason Salty will be able to afford to send his son to an Ivy League school. Wacky Wednesdays are my kryptonite.

Nice to meet you all

Jim Here aka Whiplash. I've been around this board for 3-4 years and i'm on a few others, but this is the old go to board .
I live in Mattapoisett and have been fishing Cape Cod to Rockport to Napatree fro the past 45 years. Now that makes me feel old! Right now it's mainly the canal and Cape Ann with about 6 trips a year to Montauk . I recently bought a cottage in Sag Harbor / Noyack NY so I've been down there alot only 25 miles to Montauk. Finally put a bike together for the canal - what took me so long ?So I'm set for the fall migration. You'll see me around the canal day ( I work about 5 mins from it) and night. I drive a black suburban so say hi.

Found this site about six years back but joined in 2005....been mostly a lurker but I have learned many things about fishing and people from this site as well as another bad habit........PlugBuilding..thanks.

I want to thank John for this site and the many cast of characters that over the past few years have entertained me and enlightened me.... I am sure that I have fished next to and talked to a few members on this site while fishing the Ditch and I hope to meet many more out there away from our monitors and key boards....

Hi, I'm josh. I'm a structural engineer, mostly bridge inspection, rating, design and rehab work. I'm a surf guy and really don't have much interest in anything else - though I really want to get out and do some plugging for SBFT. I've learned a ton from this site in the last few years, especially after hanging around long enough to figure out who to listen to and who to dismiss. I'm a long way from being where I want to be as a surf fisherman but I'm alot closer than I would be if I was just figureing things out on my own. I feel that I owe alot to guys like DZ, Bassmaster (hey, that's his needle in my avatar) and #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& for the information that they've provide here and wish those guys came around more often - tons on information and experience there, not to mention entertainment in the winter.

Met alot of great people though this site on the cuttyhunk trips and other events and look forward to meeting more. I'm pissed that I have to miss the fall cutty trip this year - though I usually feel like my chances for fish are better in my home waters, the company will be missed. ok, i'm really just pissed that I'm missing JohnR's wife's shepards pie.

I've been fishing since i was a kid but only got into chasing the striped ones about 5 years ago....been on the board for about 4 years now. Not only have I picked up the Striper addiction but I also picked up the plug making addiction. I have learned a TON from the people on this board and have also met a lot of great guys through it. Hi Frank here, I am a therapist. Mostly one on one, but sometimes groups. More money in groups, no doubt, but getting people to open up in front of others is extremely difficult and time consuming, but hey thats where the money is, time, in my line.

Been fishing since I was a little kid on Muddy Pond in Eastham. I can't remember when I started salt water fishing. Enjoyed Eastham and all it had to offer when I was a kid.

Started in on S-B.com after Bill and Jul's told me about fellow club member (MSBA), and former Massachusetts resident, JR, starting his own web site. I have only insulted (and apologized) a couple of people here and find some of the friendships I have made here to have been very rewarding. But then again I have never met anyone I didn't like, truly.

Although it may not always seem like it I try and put God and the Christian life first, not alwasy easy.
I fish the surf a little in the spring and fall, out of a boat the rest of the time.
I try and target bottem fish too.
I respect women who like it natural and I feel the same way about bass whatever that means.
I love the other half of the earth up in a tree with a bow or gun.
I hate people who are negative or complainers. I've lost fish & time because of people like that.
Some times getting away from the computer is the best thing for you, you fish more you catch more you spend more time with family, some of you oughta try it some time.

P.S. don't sweat it Ronnie, I say 1 1/2 and Vic will be on your gang.

Hi my name is Bill. It has been 3 weeks since my last fix.
I live, physically, in Mansfield MA, but mentally stay sane by reading all the fishing activity others share on this board. I have a family who does not crave to fish so with balancing work and family time my fishing hours have been steadily declining for the last 10 years.
My 10 year old keeps us focussed on other non-fishing activities

I have been in IT for 30 years, currently managing QA for a global IT organization in Lexington MA.

My name is John and I have been fishing since I was 3 years old (almost 34 years). I live in Easton and am fortunate to have a wife and young son who both like to fish. Unfortunatley, my wife only likes to fish for about an hour at a time and only on boats and my son is too young to have the attention span for "real" fishing. I used to fish from shore and boat, but am now mostly shorebound after selling the boat this spring. I've been a member on this site for a long time, but was not very active until recently. It's great having a job that allows a lot of time on the net. Lots of great information and always some funny stuff here. I hope to meet some of the SB community out on the beaches during the fall run. Good luck to everyone.

Tony here in beautiful Staten Island NY. No not really. I am a Chef for a living and have been fishing since I was a kid. I fish the beach and sometimes a small boat up on the Cape. I am a single parent and just got my oldest son in college the younger brother is still home with me. I do try to get up north to the Cape twice a year and fish with my lifelong bud. Looking forward to a better fall than last and I'm ready for anything.

The name is Pat. I'm 18. Ive grown up in Western Ct, and I fish there 4-6 nights a week from March 15th to December 15th. I only fish from the surf. I plug. I belong to a small group of harcore surf andlers in my local area who are what you could call "young guns". There are very few serious pluggers where I fish, so it makes it difficult to get information, we end up putting in alot of time for our fish. This is only my third full surf season, Ive been doing fresh water since I was little. I'm the only one in the house that fishes, my father accually hates it, so I'm on my own except for a few good friends. Thats it.

Pete here
Born in Brooklyn, grew up on Lawn Guyland, transplanted to VT 35 years ago.
Fished since I was one I'd bet. Rediscovered saltwater about ten years ago due to boredom on the family vacation to Hades (AKA Wells, ME) bought a saltwater flyrod and flyfished for stripers and blues for a few years until I wanted to cast further. Realized I'd end up spending at least 500 for a twohanded rod, reel and lines and bought a fairly inexpensive surf rod and reel.
That worked for a while but now I have four setups and hundreds of plugs, oh yeah I make plugs too. :whackin:
What I really want is a chopper so I can be on the rocks in a couple of hours.
I really don't want to see a saltwater license, since I usually fish ME, NH, MA, RI and NY each year.

I've fished for them, too. I find that singles are good bait, but you'll have even more luck if you use 5's and 10's. Unlike bass, use larger bait for smaller strippers.

Used to fish alot when I was younger, but hadn't gone at all for almost 15 years.
Just got a boat last year and started fishing again this year.
Caught alot of blues but only 1 Striper and that was luck - hooked it on a Rapala while trolling for blues.
Been lurking here for a while trying to learn all I can about striper fishing. Glad to have found you guys so I can learn!

Hi, I'm Dave.
I love to fish but can live without it if need be.
I've been told I can't make decisions (Clammer), but I believe he's wrong, I just don't rush into my decisions.
I like to stir the pot a little but it's all in fun, I just go too far at times..LOL...
I suck with directions and get lost a lot..I'm fixing that with a GPS for my car..(anything to keep Clammer happy).
I have only a few friends..but they are friends for life..Most were met thru this site..(Thanx JR)
I have a great time surf fishing over the years but would much rather boat fish.
I enjoy doing things for people, sometimes too much, but that's just me......:btu:

Thats all for now..carry on..:btu:

Hi,
My name is Steve and I like fishing. I am an engineer, I am also disabled, blew my back out casting too much. I'm 54 and have fished most of my life. I am content to sit beside the canal, with a piece of bait attached to a 8/0 hook and watch the world go by, while waiting for a bite. I have fished for stripers for 45 years, don't go as much as I used to, but still go when God allows.
The last fish I caught was a LMB on a shiner in one of the ponds at the headwaters of the Taunton River watershed, that was about a week ago. It was about 12" (I actually caught 2 fish of equal size that afternoon).

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Brand new member. For a profession, I take care of blind and low vision veterans in Long Island.

I've fished at the mouth of the Narragansett Bay for many Columbus Day weekends in October but am interested in fishing there during the Spring Bass run. Can anyone give me an idea what dates to expect
the bass to run in the Spring? Am talking about Brenton Point or Butterball rock in Newport. Any tips on bait or plugs would also be great. Thanks

Eddie - good work you do.

If this year was an indication, you had to have plugs or eels at night and pray you intercepted some of the very nice and very large bass turning the corners of the bay chasing Menhaden. Definitely a right spot / right time thing. I know, I was usually at the right spot at the wrong time...

Well...
From autumn to spring...when i practice "hard surfcasting" the main target is the predatory fishes.
The most important is surely the BASS...
In our land is nicknamed "the Queen" !!
Other species..are "SERRA FISH"..and "BARRACUDA"(They are tropical fishes)
Black sea bass(Orata),'Sheepshead bream'(Sarago)...Dentex...
And generally speaking..BLUE FISH.
