i have had awesome sucess with circle hooks on striped bass , not 1 deep hooked fish in three years since i switched over to circle hooks . but i have not tried them on bluefish i was wondering how well they work on the slash and chop of the cannibals ?

I think they are fine, I have found that they will take blues even with mono leader when my bait was meant for bass. If you target blues with bait I would suggest using wire with crimps around the hook and then around a barrel of the other side in order to set up your own wire leaders. I dont like the store bought with the clip as I have found the blues to tear it up and its more expensive. I even have a few I crimped with floats in the middle for when is crabby. If the chew the end you can always recrimp a hook on.

I use a 5/0 Gamakatsu circle hook with eels and blues will take it no prob.

I have used a circle hook on live pogies and it even works with buefish, without a leader. I lose a hook every 3-4 bluefish, but it is worth it.
