Today i spent the whole day working on my 71 super beetle- I did a full interior strip down to the floor pans- headliner out, dash out, seats out, windows out.... gas tank out because I have been having a lot of fuel problems do to a rusty gas tank-

What does this have to do with clearcoat??? I didnt want to have to buy a new gastank so i acid etched the interior of the tank and then sealed the inside with this stuff- http://www.bfyobsoleteparts.com/Fuel-Tank-Liner-ca-90-pr-2053-pg-1.html

Its a single part product and its thick enough that you could brush or dip plugs and throw them on a spinner-

I only say that this stuff would be a great clearcoat because i used a sealed needle blank as a stirstick and also as a 'cureosity test' and was impressed with the results...
one down side actually is that it was slightly amber colored...

on a side note - Thank you for keeping the game "punch buggy <color>" alive and well.

Sounds like a good product to seal the floor pan also.
