We are now starting the second of the two best times to fish every season.

The next 2 months ~ SIXTY DAYS ~ of declining weather, changing patterns, NW blowouts, tournaments, trips, friction with the other halves.

What do you love and what you just can't stand for the Fall Run?

I love blitzing fish, but I can't stand cold fingers.

I love the first hours of a NE'str but I can't stand watching it all happen while I'm at work.

I hate cold fingers as well, but love it when you can warm them up in the water :hee:

I love the fall stroll across Cuttyhunk to favorite spots, the changing colors of the leaves, the smell of the cool/salty fall air, the sunrise, the sunset, seeing the occasional whitetail scurry up a hill closeby.......and washing the striper slime out of my waders from hauling one back across the island over my shoulder! Ahhhhh yes! Soon!:kewl:

I miss the Cape sand on the backside......the quiet of a lonely, isolated stretch of beach after dark! The fall sunrise after a night of catching......winter whispering through the dune grass that it is coming as I walk off with my seasons best fish dragging in the sand!:bc:

I love everything about fall fishing, the crisp air, the increased expectations on my way to the spot, but I do hate when we get hit with an October Nor'easter that screws everything up for a week

I love the cool mornings that lead into warm days.

I hate the fact that the fall run is not as predictable as the spring run. It can be as short as a couple of days when the big fish push through a few of the spots that I fish and if you are not there, you are out of luck. I am usually working when this happens. I hate the fact that winter is around the corner.

I love the fall sunrise over the ocean and knowing that a 50 pounder can be the next cast away. I can't stand when the birds are working and you can see the fish blitzing but they are just out of casts reach to get to them.

I love seeing blitzing fish, not something I see so much in the summer of spring for that matter.

I had a great day last fall fishing in cold rain having peanut bunker beaching themselves at my feet, caught so many bass I lost count.

I like the sunrise which helps warm you up after a cold night. I like a warm october day eating a good dinner and then getting dressed to the nine's for a cold night in the surf! I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

love fishing in the cold. fished one night two falls ago when it was in the teens and caught some nice bass in the low 20's. just feels more special for some reason

love continuing to fish at night and ignoring the daytime blitzes for the most part (nothing wrong with a good night time blitz though). i've had a great season so far and really want to put a cap on it. gonna try to make myself keep going until thanksgiving in my home waters. I usually start driving south after October but I want to see what's out there this year. Worse comes to worse getting a cod on an eel would be kind of cool.

don't like feeling rushed, like its almost over.

don't like the extra strain on the marriage, flowers get expensive when you're filling the truck up a couple times a week to fish.

Cool , clear nights, the better than average shot at the fish of the season, Cuttyhunk and the great fishing the fall can bring. What I don't like is the sinking feeling that the imminant end to another season is just around the corner and thinking about enduring yet another cold bassless winter

Steve got my thought:

I dream all year-- even when I'm tonging 30's & 40's by boat in Spring on Bunker-- of Fall Surfcasting at my pet places! I truly believe (& epitomize the belief) that one "30" or "40" or "50" from surf is worth 10 from boat... and 10 times 10 if from surf on artificial, esp. wood! :bounce:

The worst part about Fall-- and it starts for me in early Sept.-- is the knowledge/ feeling/ fear that it'll all be over in two short/ fleeting months... and then I'll have to wait another 9 months JUST to be here casting once again! :sleeps: :exp:

My favorite thing about the Fall Run is the spirit of the CHASE and the heart pounding exhilaration that goes with every BLITZ and the very reel chance at landing my first 50.

The worst thing about this time of year, besides the impending departure of our beloved prey, is the fact that this year I have to be in FL for October's New :af:.

:bc::bc:Have ya seen all the Bunker that's still here and still close?:bc::bc:

I love day time surface action in the fall. What a ball.

Driving the beaches is fun too.

Fall fishing can be great into December. Biggest bluefish ever for me were caught in the last few days in Nov. I've seen huge stripers caught in Dec too.

I love that all the guys out there in late September and October know what they're doing and "the other guys" are at home where it's nice and warm. Fishing becomes a much more peaceful pursuit.

I love to be able to drive the beach chasing pod after pod of fish. I love that I can get on the end of the jetties with out dealing with a bunch of idiots crossing my line or hooking each other. I love watching and talking with the expierenced anglers and ofcourse the great fishing here in R.I. Last year my last day fishing was JAN 11 and my first day was the end march so not much time off for me.I hate that my wrist are killing me allready from fishing.I hate that my wife and kids get mad that im fishing so much.I hate that I spend about $200.00 in gas a week driving from place too place. Its all worth it.

well I love to see 40lbers come to the top to grab my pencil and go into shock mode and my drag sings the striper song! now what I hate is my buddie calls my cell phone daily and says where you ? and walks in puts on the same lure I have and hooks up and gets a bigger bass than me.

What I like about the fall run: When everything begins to smell like bass. My hands, my tackle, the kitchen, the water, the air, everywhere. It's the smell, hard to miss, that means it is on, the fishing, the blitzing, the fall.

What I hate about the fall run: Being out of the country and missing the whole shebang...rrrrgh

I love the feeling as i pull into a parking spot and the race to put on the waders and everything else begins. It might take 5 minutes but it feels like eternity. Then the walk to the suds, feet are moving faster than my brain, how did a rock that big roll :smash:. Finally get to the water, knowing exactly where im going to cast my favorite fall time plug, a dozen twitches of the rod brings the plug infront of that rock, my rock the water boils. fish on... Bend down to grab the leader and the wave crashes soaks my hair. Just in time, im in that fall run state of mind. Nothing matters besides the hunt, if the wave didnt hit i would have thought i died and went to heaven. To a good fall for all.

I love that there are much less people out fishing, no restrictions on ramps you can use, and the light the angle of the sun casts this time of year is a beautiful thing.

I hate the cold but love the fishing it brings,I hate the F%$# up winds and the fishing it kills,I like that most the other anglers out at this time of the year at night are like me,I love that there are no bugs,I don't feel like it's coming to an end till nov. rolls around then that feeling starts to kick in and I get despret:(:

Best things about the fall run besides the chance at some great fish are:
1. Having your "spots" to yourself.
2. Starting out in the morning being able to see your breath, then taking off layers of clothes as it warms to the perfect fishing temp.
3. Spending a Sunday morning out fishing, going home and taking a short nap, then waking up to watch football all day.

I've learned a lot from folks on this site but sometimes I think I fish in a opposite universe than most people out here. Fishing mostly at night, from May - September, most of my spots are empty, come October there are crowds! I think there are more people fishing in the fall than any other time of the year. A few examples - I fish a "hole" in RI where there is plenty of public parking, come the fall, there are times I cannot even get in the lot. At some breachways, I've seen yahoos in jeans, mid-November, ice and snow on the ground, standing in the water casting! I never ran into anything like this all year, even in 80 degree weather!

So fall to me, means crowds!
I like the crisp air, not sweating while walking a mile to a spot, the ice on my eels lasts longer.

I love it all, it makes you get that "its great to be alive" feeling, everyday.

the only drawbacks are:
the headaches I get from sleep deprivation:lossinit:
The pressure that it puts on the wife and family:chatter :hs::lasso: :call:

The withdrawal that comes when it is really over and I need to get back to work and catch up on all that was put on hold.

For me it is over when the last scallop goes into the icy bucket

Fall is the best.

The crisp fresh mornings, empty boat ramps, Just the great outdoors curzing the sound wind in my hair (what I got left) I just love being on the water!

I hate that are summers are way to short!! I hate that after Oct we have 7 months of nothing!!

Look, this is gonna happen. Here is what you do. Give your wife a couple crisp $100 bills, kiss her, and tell her to treat herself to something nice, then tell her this will all be over in November and we will do something she wants to do then. She will stop giving you the evil eye when the tide is right and your headed out the door each night.

i love the clear crisp nights and the frosty mornings with some good sized surf to make them perfect. i love october because the leaves are changing color, the bass are feeding and hunting season starts in october.... time for venison stew and baked striper all in the same day. the bugs are gone ,most of the yahoos are gone too.
