View Full Version : Road signs
ProfessorM 09-11-2007, 01:56 PM Do we really need evacuation route signs every 1/4 mile on the cape. I just started to notice them all along 28 last nite on way home from work. Even one at the bottom of the bridge. Daaa. Like there isn't enough urban blight already along the sides of the road.
spence 09-11-2007, 02:12 PM I like them, reminds me I don't live in Iowa any more :)

Anyone who doesn't know the way off the Cape without signs deserves to suffer whatever fate everyone else is running away from :rtfm:
I'm suspecting the Commonwealth got a bunch of federal Homeland Security $$$ and had to do this to keep the funding.
Evacuating the entire Cape over two narrow bridges--yeah, good luck with that one :rollem:

Or maybe one of the mucky ducks bro-in -law owns a sign company.
ProfessorM 09-11-2007, 04:18 PM It is ridiculous it is every 1/4 mile for gods sake do they think people have the attention span of 6 year old.

I said that Sunday night as the Wife and I were leaving. If you can't find your way off the Cape, then you're gonna die anyway. I don't think that my chances are good in gridlock atop the Sagamore Bridge during a hurricane either.
basswipe 09-11-2007, 04:55 PM They're everywhere. And sometimes pointing in a direction which isn't the best route to take.

What did you say? Are we there yet?
Is it in Braille too?
The Dad Fisherman 09-12-2007, 07:46 AM do they think people have the attention span of 6 year old.
Well....Yeah. Every day I meet people that get lost walking out the door....there is no shortage of stupid people in the world.
and think about the Brain Trust that makes up the Tourist Population that invades the cape every year.....I'm betting there aren't a whole lot of Einsteins in that group
Karl F 09-12-2007, 09:18 AM the signs... :rtfm:
effin joke that they are.
some misguided muslim flys a plane into the Plymouth Nuke plant, or it goes into failure on it's own... my only option is to drive TOWARDS it in heavy traffic for God knows how long... OK.. yeah, that makes sense.. Huge Hurricane comes along .. I ain't heading for them Model T bridges.... stayed through Bob, and a few others.. i'm used to camping in the rough, no worries, and i'm high and dry at my place.. if it goes 100 feet above sea level, were all toast anyway.
they should just have signs that says, in case of emergency.. bend over, kiss your ass goodbye. :hihi:
but.. i do recall reading it's funded and mandatory.. just shows Govt. at its.. "best"
kinda moronic.. i mean really.. how many ways are there over them bridges? :fishslap:
striperman36 09-12-2007, 10:06 AM Homeland security funded I believe
Mike P 09-12-2007, 03:11 PM The funny thing is--coming off 6, the last sign is just before the 6A merge. Once you get over the bridge, there's no sign telling you which way to go next.
East towards Scussett Beach?
West towards Buzzards Bay (figure 2 hours minimum to get there during a mass exodus)?
Or straight up 3? Towards the radioactive cloud billowing out of Pilgrim :rollem::laugha:
Did the money run out or are they still trying to figure which is the best of 3 lousy options?
When I saw the signs I pondered it for a moment and turned to my husband and said....if THIS is the evacuation route, arent we pretty screwed anyway"????!!!!
mountaincaster 09-13-2007, 03:50 PM As a former ER nurse here are some things that will get you killed.
1. people who stop in their tracks immediatly after leaving a building.
2.Overestimating your health.
3.HMO'S.
4.Overestimating others intelligence
5.Not wearing a seat belt.
6. Believing that gas pain in your chest is just that.
7. Drinking then operating something that require your (fool) attention)
8.Ignoring common sense and replacing it with a "short-cut"
9.Not wearing safety devices.
10.My favorite is ...letting yourself become distracted with the job at hand ....
