View Full Version : sand eel lure???
bigbuck28 09-11-2007, 11:01 PM ok i just got in from a fustrating night.. I had BIG bass exploding all around me and i could see them in the water . Thet where feeding on the small bait and about 3-4" long sand eels. What lure would replicate a sand eel. I threw a white needle fish with a teaser, a small revenge 2 oz jig(similar to cripple herring). All with no hits.... any one have any suggestons on what might work????:bsod:
rickhern 09-11-2007, 11:04 PM REDGILLS.
If you are still interested in the gsb1321m, I will throw in some redgills to sweeten the deal.

a big metal lip drapped with an eel skin is usually my choice when there is ton of bait around....don't ask me why
it just works
basswipe 09-12-2007, 06:39 AM Pt.Jude's Po-Jee or Sandeel tin works for me.
Clogston29 09-12-2007, 06:40 AM sometimes when they just won't hit anything, throwing something different from that bait is the key, as Zeno noted with the large metal lip. I've also found that in that situation (although for me it has been silversides, not alot of sandeels where I fish) working a sluggo or even a bomber quick and erradic sometimes pays off. I think its because something moving quick like that makes the fish make an instant decision.
Was it full dark? If so a rigged or live eel should work as might an eelbob. Tough to fool them if it was still daylight and they're on small sandeels.

Rappin Mikey 09-12-2007, 06:49 AM The Polish Sandeels work pretty well when the bait is in thick. They are a little to pricy for the lure in my opinion though.
And sometimes they really just wont hit. I had a HUGE blitz the other night at a pretty well known Rhodey spot, big bass, and big blues, launching out of the water on peanuts. Fish EVERYWHERE. We threw plugs of all kinds into the white water, around the pods, under the pods. NOTHING. Thats just the way it is sometimes.
zimmy 09-12-2007, 07:30 AM I like the 5" red fin in that situation. Eel skin plug is an interesting idea. Gotta try em one of these days.
fishbones 09-12-2007, 08:49 AM The Pt. Jude tin sand eel has worked well for me in teh past. I also bought some of the Tsunami sand eel imitations, and they look great. They are a dead ringer for the reel thing and have pretty good action in the water. Unfortunately, I can't comment on how they catch because I've only tried them once and there was too much weed in the water.
bigbuck28 09-12-2007, 10:30 AM guys i have learned that there was also those small spear fish as well mixed in...... Thanks for all the info ill let yah know how i mkae out!!
