Once this fall is over I will be looking for a new reel.I'm not looking for something that will break the bank but something reliable and strong that is good for throwing plugs.My Okuma the bail flips and plugs coming flying back with much force.I can't seem to find any reels with no bails except the VS but I can't see dropping that much coin.I've read some Penn reels have a conversion kit.

What size reel are you looking for? I use a Penn Slammer 360 and I love it. No problems with the bail ever flipping prematurely, nice smooth and strong drag, holds 300 yds of 14# Fireline (which is actually more like 27# test), and it has an oversized line roller that lays the Fireline on nice and even. I know a lot of people favor a bigger reel, but for me they don't cast well enough. This Slammer is about as large as I like a spinning reel to be, for heavier gear I go to conventional.

How to stop bail flipping. :af: Line the roller up with the rod as you normaly would,then take the line with your finger,flip the bail and then rotate the rotor all the way around until it stops.I have found by doing this on my cabo(it has a heavy handle) when i throw it hard,it can't spin around and flip the bail.I have done this for two years now without a single bail flip.I can throw my plugs as hard as I want or need with no more worries of flipping.:D

I'll second this advice--it works with every spinning reel I've tried so far.
