im not real familar with it i have a buddy that uses it he wont use nothing else i was thinking of filling my spools with it for cuttyhunk weekend i was just wondering if this is a good idea or not if so what size should i get and what kind of laeder material i should get thanks :confused: :confused: :confused:

I use the 65lb Whiplash with either 60lb or 80lb Orvis Mirage Florocarbon....

I use 65lb Whiplash or 50lb Powerpro on my reels. Personally I like the slightly thicker PP on my spinning reels, as they seems to be more operator error friendly. I have heard of folks w/ breaking issues using PP but I have not had that problem.

I"ve got 65# w/lash on one of my cod rods ,as well as other brands, tuff line an pp.. the w/lash I find works the best by far an thats the I pick-up first to use.the rest sit there as back-ups.

That's a big reel Joe. You're going to need a lot of whiplash!

It will handle 65 lb but be sure to keep the drag adjsuted down where you would keep it if fishing mono. That line at 65 pound will break the rod if you clamp down the drag.

I think the braids are better on more moden design reels with tapered spools and more sweep front and back when laying down the line. If the reel just lays the braid down pretty paralell , you could have rtouble with the line sliding over an adjacent wrap.

Anyway , if it was me and I was going to Cuttyhunk , I'd want old reliable , not something new that could be a problem.

don at weekapaug b&t gonna hook me up he's gonna show me how to tie it on my 20# big game then the flourocarbon so ishould be alright im gonna give it a whirl thanks for the info saltheart just live and learn thats what its all about ;) ;)

Joe, DON"T watse your time and money putting whiplash on that Penn reel, it will experience all kinds of line twist and make you mental. For a reel to handle braid well, it has to have a decent size line roller and the 704 has next to nothing for a roller and it would have to spin very freely also. Stick with mono on the Penn.

If you want to try braid, I would have to say the best all around non-mono line to start off with would be Fireline. I started using it 8 or 9 years ago and I still use it on the beach ( 14 lb.) Once you get accustomed to braid you may want to give the whiplash a try, one thing to remember is use lurers that will give enough tension to put the line back on the reel with enough tension so you don't get any of those wind knots which are nothing more than the line being so twisted that it gets to a point where it just goes Kaflooie.

Fireline is something called MycroDyneema but has no stretch like braid. It is a bit thicker than whiplash.

Joe the fireline would be a better coice. It is more user friendly. It is also better when using plugs. I have used both, and now use the Fireline.

EXACTLY !!!!!!!! stick with what your used too . Cutty isnt the place to try new things . aint no bait store to get mono if you should have a problem with the braid . bring some with ya .

i have a 750ss penn what about that reel if not ill just go with 30#big game thanks for the help guys didnt wantto messing with tangled line all weekend:)
