in the past i fished the jetties in marshfield where i lived.now here in ply.i have a few choices but my fav. is a very rocky area with many boulders and large rocks out front.i have a baitrunner reel. question is how should i fish eels.in the past i just let them pretty much go where they wanted not having to worry about the rocks too much.but i see problems here now from shore, cast and slow retrieve or what? or chuck e'm out and let the runner do the job. i know a lot of you are fishing eels and quite knowledgable on this subject. tackle suggestions
and how to fish the rocks will be
greatly appreciated !!!

I've haven't been hung up fishing with eels this way: Making sure I always had contol of the eel, if the line is slack is reel quicker if not reeling slow and let the eel do it's thing. Catching is another thing, but I do have 1 37" from the beach doing it this way.

SM.
Can't help u with rocks,we don't have any. I fished eels dead, alive, skins,,,,,dead stop,an yes even reeling as fast as I could. u just don't know what the mood of sb will be that night. now this could help. I've fished in between moored boats lots of times.[think of the boat as a rock] I'd toss that eel almost AT the motor, so the eel was right behind the boat.let it drift for 15 sec. ,If I didn't get a hit right off I'd try again. after 6 trys no fish I'd try another boat[rock]. see I learned fish like to sit behind things, doesn' t mater what it is. SO try slow-fast till u get a hit, an just repeat what ever u were doing to get that hit, if u can remember what is was u were doing:confused: :D

All depends what type of water you're fishing...Open surf, no current, calm night just cast, wait a few seconds and retrieve slowly. When the eel begins to loose life I add a bit of wieght. Deeper water you have to be a bit creative, I've got a great system but have to keep that bit of edge to myself, all I have to say is be creative, you have to get that eel down deep! A bit of current, cast up current and let the eel drift, add wieght if there is a good amount of current or deep water. Main thing you have to keep in mind is getting down to the strike zone. I use a Gamakatsu hook, size 8/0 live bait. The thicker shank of the hook adds the tiny bit of wieght that helps to get the eel down a bit more in skinny water. I use 60lb-80lb Floro...orvis Mirage along with spro swivels. Long leader helps in rocky water because its more abrasion resistant than the 65lb whiplash braid I'm using. Hope this helps....
