View Full Version : My Tribute to John Haberek
Crazy Alberto 09-26-2007, 10:48 AM The past few days I’ve been numb and deeply sadden and words just can not express my true feelings about the loss of my dear friend.
I sat quietly by my bench and closed my eyes to envision the memories and I let my thoughts trough my body and into my brush. This is my tribute to John… . A print of John peeking trough the sky and under his favorite place to fish (Watch Hill Lighthouse, RI) and with his favorite work (Hab’s Needlefish) in action (ready to be clobbered by a monster bass)! This print will be available in remembrance of him and his masterpiece. Limited signed copies will be released and 100% of the proceeds will go into the Haberek’s family (Jessica and Jr.). I will be going to the wake and the funeral but when I get back… More information will be available.
Rest in Peace my dear friend and I will see you in my dreams.

pouringpro 09-26-2007, 07:03 PM We begin loving fishing, we then marvel at the big fish, and we end loving fishing.
Habs was so observant there was no way I could get close when I met him, but I understand people who really see. A year later he stumbled from the surf exhausted, moments after me. Standing in the surfline, that second of understanding, will be with me every step this November on BI.
I sent this to Habs on Sept. 18th.
Once Upon The Water
Quiet through the sand along the cut
The soft crunch of my steps, increasing stride
The stars are close tonight, but
No moon, last outgoing hours of tide
and the voice of moving water, near
By, for I have quieted the world of work
and people in my mind, and so begin to hear,
the distant water noises in the dark.
Stripers247 a.m. trailing blue light, crashing bait.
I stand waste deep in flat calm ocean
Fish breaking at my feet, like trout if you wait.
The fishing voices within begin
First whispering to myself, Stripers everywhere,
Calming, for my first lineside fly cast ever!
Now screaming skyward at my luck, YES YES,I dare
Let fly new bought Lefty’s Deceiver.
The crash is mine and I am stripped.
From books to reality and back, battle on
Leaders part, hooks straighten, fast learning, fish lipped
Madly laughing, release, catch, release, catch, done
Water slapping shore where dinner “keeper” has lain
The world is breathing, and I too breath again
Thanks Habs
Bazza 09-26-2007, 07:13 PM Nice work, and quite a tribute. Wow
Got Stripers 09-26-2007, 07:31 PM Excellant, what a nice tribute to a wonderful man. I wasn't as fortunate as many to have fished with him and I regret not getting around to that. I did have a number of great talks with him at the MSBA shows and at a couple Hooters outings and I enjoyed each and every one of them. He was a class act and a fun guy to exchange stories with.
Kevin M 09-26-2007, 07:59 PM Alberto, that is beautiful.
DJ Muller 09-28-2007, 06:05 PM Al,
