I will register as shore division next year, and declare a fish caught on boat.

More seats, more food stands, and more non alcoholic beverages at Striperfest.

Hopefully more timely updates on web pages.

How does this team get a guy to count three fish?
10. Jersey Shore Surfcasters 348.47
1) Bob Gammer 49.14 37.8 shore
2) Dj Muller 45.24 34.8 shore
3) Russ Sommers 43.03 33.1 shore
4) Brian Schwerdt 41.67 32.06 shore
5) Bob Gammer 41.08 31.6 shore
6) Bob Gammer 36.40 28 shore
7) Jay Carhart 32.50 25 shore
8) Rich Karpowicz 30.42 23.4 shore
9) Andrew Schmidt 28.99 22.3 shore

All in all, a great time yesterday. Two snafus at awards were quickly resolved. Will be interesting to see if shore bonus is adjusted. Awards should start sooner, with boat giveaway held to the end.

Went to eat at no name diner, after I saw the jam up trying to get out of parking garage.

Good job OTW!

Biggest snafu was the parking garage. Who ever heard of having to pay before you got into your car to leave. . I felt bad for the people on the upper levels.

My brother and I never worked so hard to get out of anywhere. Its easier posting bail. Then in the end the younger of the uniformed guys inside the garage went around and opened up the back exit.

I agree with Ross, at least two more food vendors. Those people at the sausage counter worked thier you know whats off. More tables absolutely.

I have a need to never listen to POLKA music ever again. Jesus was that loud.

I walked down to the officer and paid while Mike waited in car then like I said allready the guy opened up the back gate and let everyone out.

i had no idea what was going on.
I was on level three and just sat in my car not moving for 30 minutes. Then all of the sudden cars stated going down a different row so I backed up and followed them, and the gates were open and everyone was just cruising out. Nobody paid for anything

I paid.

I had a beer and went to bed.:D..IMO it is stupid to have that event in a crowed area like Boston. They should have it at a fairground with free parking in a field not in a parking garage setting. Harpoon can sell beer anyplace it does not have to be in a city.
Glad I stayed home.

boy you are getting grumpy in your old age. ;)

it is at the brewery. i think that is pretty cool. there was certainly a snaffu with the pkg, but all and all it was great. it is super easy to get to and not a crowded part of boston.

Having the event at the brewery is awesome and I hope they never change that. They just need to figure out a better solution for pkg.

I was happy to go into town rather than having to drive out to some fair ground in east bum. Made sense to promote their brewery in boston.

I parked in the lot down the street and got out no problem :hihi:

Were there signs in the lot saying to bring your ticket and pay before returning to your car? There usually are and its usually alot quicker that way. Its pretty common. That's how alot of the garage's in boston are. If they didn't have signs, then shame on them. If they did or if it said something on the ticket, shame on everyone who ignored them. They did announce it at the striperfest over the PA too.

As far as changes to striperfest (pretty much what's already been said):

lose the band, or quiet them down somehow
more food vendors
more seating
have the awards earlier in the event

I didn't see any signs. I am sure someone from our group would have mentioned it. All the people standing in line at the garage didn't know either. Not really that big a deal now that we know.

that suck that it wasn't clear, its one of those things that works well, but only if people know about it

the lot that I parked in had signs on every door and on the elevator, there was an automated massage playing in the elevator, and the doorman reminded you on your way out

There were signs to carry your parking ticket with you at the base of every flight of stairs :hee: navy blue signs with either white or yellow letters.

We watched and laughed. Paid our parking fare 9$ which I found very reasonable. Walked up to the truck laughed some more, talked with Max and Redlight for a bit, had a soda then drove right out of the garage. From the point we got in the truck until we were out front. It took us 11 minutes, which again I found to be pretty reasonable.

there were signs everywhere, I started walking to my car, then saw a sign... and Neal Larson even made an announcement at some point reminding everybody. That's not the issue, the issue is that logistically it didn't work, a huge line to pay, then a huge line to get out of the garage just sucked, they should arrange for free parking or something if you had a ticket.

They will need to adjust the shore/boat handicap factor or the boat clubs will loose interest. When you average the top three boat groups and the top three shore groups, it looks like the correction factor should be 1.2

The other thing that is discouraging is how many 30 and 40 lb bass were killed. It is discouraging to look at the pin totals and see what a small percentage were released. Perhaps they should only give individual pins for RELEASED fish. Might help a little.

I think it would also help if they updated the standings more often. Daily doesn't seam like too much to ask in the internet age. People would be less likely to keep a 30 if a 40 was already weighed in on a given week or a 40 if a 50 was weighed in for a given month, etc.

As far as the factor goes, there is no factor that will ever be considered fair. They could separate it into boat and surf but then it would lose something by having each one less competative. Looking at the number of boat vs. surf 50s weighed in or comparing the angler of the year boat and surf averages, I don't think the 1.3 factor is far off. Especially when you have commericial guys and commerical fish involved (higher limit, more ability to "cull"). In general though, I agree that 1.2 factor seams reasonable. Any factor will lead to "oh, well they had the surf factor" type thoughts and not having a factor would lead to "how are surf guys gonna compete, might as well not bother."

As far as the number of fish kept, I think alot would have been kept anyway. There's lots of people involved for one. Also, there are commercial fisherman involved - why wouldn't they weigh in at least one fish per week during the commercial season, they're keeping them anyway.

just a few thoughts.

I agree with Clogston that they should update the standings more often so people would know when to keep or not keep. I mean, I wouldn't keep a fish just for a pin, but I would keep it to win a prize.

A lot of fish were killed, but I'd like to know the percentage of entrants that weighed in fish

Why can't C&R count? Most fish on the board were caught early. The 51 lber I had on the boat in May has been the largest I have had so far this year. I will most likely get a larger one in the next few weeks tho.

The contest should go until the end of Sept and then do the gig at the middle of October. The numbers would be different.

You also can't be boat and surf. You have to be mutually exclusively one or the other to weigh in.
If I fish the surf from my boat would that make me a surf guy?

They do have Catch and Release for pins so the fish that were killed were not killed for a pin. Most people that kept them were probably going to keep them anyways, regardless if they were in a tournament or not. The only difference is that they are going to be stopping by a scale before the cutting board.........and since they are weighing it in for the tournament it becomes more visible.

I think the only sin in keeping a fish is NOT eating it.......you can keep it to wear as a hat for all I care, just as long as when your done wearing it....you eat it. thats just the Circle of Life right there.

Last year, the parking garage charged a flat $12 "Event Parking" fee when you entered, and everything went as smooth as glass leaving.

But, people bitched about the $12 fee, so this year they went to hourly rates and created the biggest fuster-cluck anyone ever saw.

I hope the guys who bitched at the extra $3 last year liked waiting 45 minutes to get out--I sure didn't :wall:

Once we realized what was going on in the garage, we parked and took a walk down to LTK - Legal Test Kitchen. Yummy food and the harpoons were only $4 compared to $5 at the brewery!

Go back to a flat fee for parking. Allow one adult guest per registraint, and any children nesc. I wonder what the capacity is at that place. Deffinately more food vendors.

Is it really necessary to put mikes on the bells of the brass instruments in an oom-pah band? :rollem:

Did anyone realize that they had a girl singing on some of their numbers? :bl:

I didn't make it there this year, something happens to a guy when on rounding the bend at Race Point at first light on Saturday morning and in the face of a stiff Northwest wind every striped bass on the Cape coast is feeding in the first wave and 30 pounders are swimming in back of you as you wade out and your first cast is greeted with a singing reel and a big bass heading to Spain. Of course I had to be back out there Sunday but of course the fish were no where to be found, oh well at least I landed a even dozen Saturday out of the maybe 20 plus I had on and every one a good fish at that.

I made my choice so I got to live with it, couldn't not be on that beach with the possibility of some fishing finally to had there.

Glad you all enjoyed StriperFest the OTW gang does a good job and a lot of hard work goes into it.

The parking was a f*cking travesty (pardon the language). There were signs and the OTW Staff also announced at least 2 times to be sure to pay for parking first.

Nobody did.:realmad:

To top it of while I was sitting in the car watching the complete disaster unfold in front of me, I started feeling nauseous. Upon arriving home I was in the full throws of the violent stomach flu that is going around which lasted until this morning. :yak4::yak4::yak4:

I said it last year, I was done.
Well they dragged me back this year..I made a decision to only do it with one fish.I would not kill 2 for a upgrade. No matter how much bigger.if I broke 30 it was on the rocks an that was it.Till I knew of the bottom line number to upgrade the club totals..
We had quite a few anglers good friends of mine that did not partake.(= 4 fish over 40 lbs).Ones that would have made a difference. They did it for basically the same reasons I considered not doing it.First conservation an second they are not really a fan of tourney's.The OTW person tallying up the numbers made some mistakes.Plus they where kinda lazy about posting the info IMO.So this year will be my last..My fellow teammates will be disappointed I just don't see the merit in fishing like this.
Looks like u guys had some fun with the trophy..Congradulations..
