Fisherwoman 09-07-2002, 08:05 AM Ok Jenn here's one for ya.
Imagine yourself standing on Wasque beack, awaiting the sunrise to hit the water, you look to your left and someone is on. But its just a little rat blue, the sun grows higher on the water and you look to you right and you see another person on, and oh it looks to be a real line stripper, then the next person to him is on, and the next one, and then all hell breaks looks right in front of your lure and ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!
Your on and yes, yes, yes!!! its what we have been waiting for since last September, AHHHHHHHHHHHH its the albie dance.
Next week baby, those fishies are going down!!!!! BRING IT ON!!!!! Sorry SB I just couldn't resist. LMAO
Slipknot 09-07-2002, 10:23 AM OK Jenn, here's a report from last Sat. on the Cape with BM and Flaptail.
TRURO was the place to be in that NE wind tossing metal. Steve S, Dave and I went Sat. and we told Dave no way are we going to Nauset so forget it. and we went north, he said Coast Gaurd so we said fine but if it sucks then we go to Race point ok. So we finally get there before sundown(Flaptail was late) and the tide was high already. we start right by the entrance and Steve gets a bass right away, I got 2 blues and then a bass, Dave got 1 bluefish. Then we finally move down which we should have done a little earlier, sun is just about going down and we all get hits right away. I cast about 350' and let the kastmaster sink then 1 tug and wham, fish on. Takes me a while and finally am landing a 25 lb bass right as those 2 hook up, Dave busts his off(googan) and Flaptail has a smoker on and is peeling line and as it starts to slow he gives it a little pump but it comes unbuttoned(I would have loved to see that fish) Any way I caught 2 more bass on the next 2 casts and when Steve looks over and sees me hooked up again he cracks up, I was using a 3oz kastmaster and he a 4 oz hopkins. Dave used a 2 oz kastmaster on his Arra1083 and VS reel with 20 Fins braid.
After that 25 pounder my next 2 were 20-22 lbs and then 18 lbs. I love catching big bass, one of these days I will get to one of those blitzes at the beggining of it and wear my arms out
A while later since it slowed down I picked up one small 8-9 lb after Dave finally got the skunk off his back with a nice 16 lb. bass, He weighed it, I guessed it's weight at 15 from where I was standing so 1 pound off isn't bad.
Jenn, the waves were 10' and wind blasting at us from the left a little and current was going left, made for some interesting fishing. we didn't see anyone else hooked up. Flaptail pointed out that second hole we hit. We saw one wave that had to be 15'
Even the surfers down by the lot were not on their boards, it was wave after wave.
Once the sun dropped the waves flattened a little but so did the fishing so we split to Race Point
Got to Race point and gabbed with Tony A. for a bit then hit the beach all the way to the tip, bass were in close at low water and sand eels were everywhere, I put on a black needle I made and caught my first ever Race Point bass on one of my own made plugs, good feeling.
Anyway,
Meanwhile Flaptail is into a school of fish and lost a cow again, so as they moved out we found them again but this time Dave was getting twinkee after twinkee on gold bombers to sluggos to Got Stripers Rubba. I nailed a bunch also on bomber, sluggos but nothing on a needle. Then the bass shut down and split but the sandeels were still there. It was after midnight and we were toast so we split. I got home at 3 toasted, since I was up at 6:00 am that day and at the canal in the morning jigging for a while, got one 15 lb bass there.
OK that was last weekend.
As for today, I got up at 2 am went straight to Nauset and ofcourse as I walked to the path I met Pepe' in front of me, :( not a good sign.
Anyway, I decided to walk left and found someplace that looked good at low water after about an hour, switched over to a 5" mambo in olive and first cast had my first bend in the rod for the night, but after taking quite a bit of line I reeled in only the plug :(
Never got another hit. As the sun started peeking thru I saw those rotten seals in front of me. I walked towards a bar and tried poppers and still nothing.
I left and stopped by Chatham Light and saw it at low water and what big changes that place has made, the sand is all different even the channel goes out over against north beach now instead of south beach.
Jenn, just think of all those fish you are going to catch soon:D
jeffsod 09-07-2002, 11:36 AM Nice report slip. We hit Newcomb's late last friday nice night to be out and about. No wind but swell breaking pretty good. I told the guy I was with we should probably try metal but I kept throwing that mag darter to no avail. Switched to blurple mambo and still nothing. Left at midnight no hits but felt good to be there. Hope to hit that canal tomorrow am and back to the beaches next weekend.
Slipknot 09-07-2002, 12:40 PM Jeff, where at the canal will you be tom. ? Maybe I'll try to make it and even bring a flyrod. Give me a call, or I'll try you later on. I have to go to the inlaws for dinner now.
jeffsod 09-07-2002, 01:02 PM Slip, got a reception to go to later so won't have time to call ya but I was thinking of loading up the bike and parking at the herring run. Not sure what time I will be home to night but was thinking of heading down around 5am. Mainly wanted to get there in time for sunrise to see it there was any surface action. Would plan on going earlier if I wasn't going out. I will have fly gear with me and thought about doing some of that too.

It was my pleasure! The look on your face when you connected with that first bass was priceless. I have a new favorite flyfishing spot now too. Looking forward to going back.
As for the outer beaches this upcoming weekend be forewarned current forecasts are calling for some serious ocean swells.
