Ditto tasty. Ringneck (male) pheasant are a pretty highly prized game bird. Easy to hit too - the opposite of doves.

after a great dinner have a seat and tie up some great flies with those feathers.then, head for the freshwater and bang a few trout& salmon. then sit down again and pig out on some fresh fish.

The feathers would work well on the end of one of your plugs...:laugha:

They are tasty but not a lot of fat so they can dry out easy when cooking.

Did you notice if it had a band on its leg? Most likely a "pen raised chicken". They have another name also but it can be taken as inappropriate on a family site. (search engines probably bring it up as porn)

Larry if you think those are pretty good looking you
should see the chinese version...

and actually pheasants are a transplant from over seas
and were not native to America origionally..

Male pheasants are called roosters, not cocks.

depends on where you live. Up here a rooster is a male chicken.

I'm less than a quarter mile from there, looks like the same bird, at least judging from the crappy cell phone pics I have.

We used to hunt those at the Dike at Hatches. At the end of the P-town Airport runways. Try thet now....
Ringnecks are a non-native species all are stocked. We called them with a small box of BBs. Sounded like the pellets that they were fed at the farm.

You are right that they are not a native species, they originally came from China. But you are not right that they are all stocked, they can and do breed almost everywhere in the U.S.

They're called "cocks" because of the call they make when flushed:bl:

I never liked openning day, especially early morning. Way too many people. Monday should still be good as the birds will be a little more scattered, what is left of them.

Funny but not so, last season two yahoos start hunting 15 minutes early less then 100 feet from the starting spot.
One of the guys yells at me for passing him at about 35 yards, everybody had to pass them.
I told him he was dangerous, and should take a hunters safety course, oh and learn the rules.
So the SOB threatend to shoot me, I talked to a EPO later in the day,
it's a story they hear all the time.

That is sad. Another thing that rots is having to wear safety glasses for your own personal protection.

I haven't been out in the last 3 years. Ever since we had to put "Ralphie" (our english setter) down. Hunting over a dog is so much more enjoyable than just poking around blindly.

Good luck tomorrow.

And people ask me why I don't hunt :hs:

Nothing like sharing the woods with a few dozen armed morons on opening day--a good percentage of whom warmed up for the occasion by having a few pops of brandy

I wanted to jump on your stereotype but when I think about it I have seen some of that stuff too. I see less of it in hunting-freindly PA where I grew up, so I leave my guns there and go back when I need my fix. (fid card?? we dont need no stinkin fid card)
My bro in law has a beautiful Llewelyn setter that makes all the differrence when hunting those birds. Lookin for a pic of her...

stuff that bird with wild rice, pat it down with butter, wrap it up with two layers of tin foil and bury it in a bed of coals for 20-30 minutes-
perfect,never dry
