View Full Version : My first bass since july!
GonnaCatchABig1 10-06-2007, 04:12 AM let me tell ya he was a monster!! lol. this thing hit like a bus. started screaming line.. set the hook.. ok sweet feels like a really small blue.. very very feisty. not much power behind it, but very thrashy. get it in.. couldn't be more than 10inches long. lol
i gotta say i was impressed with this little guy. he was the first thing to attack a tail HALF of a decent size bunker. in fact i think it was bigger than he was.
also my first black sea bass. i kinda wish there were more of these around. bigger ones though. a completely unexpected catch.
p.s. - finally got some waders.. i dunno how i lived with out them.
Adam_777 10-06-2007, 08:27 AM congrats man you must fish same areas as me.Your posts always remind me of my own fishing expeditions.I also have some waders on the way.I've been having luck with a 3 oz herring color pencil popper with a flat bottom ,Gags.Thing really dances good.Beats a skate !
GonnaCatchABig1 10-06-2007, 08:35 AM i don't think it's the spots.. i think it's me.. everyone else catches fish.
i picked up a black 8 inch spook last night. i think i got one tap on it last night. THINK. could have caught up on some grass. but hey, thats the most luck i've had with a plug all year lol.
:bc:
the stripers hate me. buuuuut now i can get back out to my favorite spot. the water/winds/temps have all been to cold to fish there. no longer a problem. i might catch a striper before the season ends just yet.
Adam_777 10-06-2007, 08:40 AM It's not just you I was on the beach tuesday night and a small school was pushing bait on the beach. The guy next to me gets a small schoolie and as it's flopping on the beach tries to grab the plug.Fish jumps front treble sinks deep in his hand.I casted in the school and only got a bump or two.
zimmy 10-06-2007, 09:10 AM if the bait is small, try something like a 5 in. red fin or small bomber. Often they won't look at a bigger lure. I have had relatively good success with the small red fin when the fish are picky. Also try adding a teaser. In any case, sometimes that is just the way things go... oh and if it is daylight the small superstrike little neck popper is killer (so is the little habs if you got 'em :( )
Adam_777 10-06-2007, 09:14 AM personally had no luck with teasers but havent given up yet.The bass were beating up the pencil but not taking it.One grabbed it but didn't hook up.They were small and my rear hook is not a treble. The way it looks I may finally get a keeper this year.2yrs and nothing to show.

i'm at around ten years and no keepers. i must have caught a hundred stripers in july all over 20 inches and not one damn keeper. then in august it all ended.. no more 20 fish in a couple of hours.. now it's just nothing.

It might be time to look for some new spots....
GonnaCatchABig1 10-06-2007, 06:03 PM i would say that too.. if other people haven't been having massive success in these spots.. i've got bunches of them.. 15 of them with in 3 mins ride.. all prodcuing for othe people doing the same stuff as me.. just cant catch crap. :crying:
BigFish 10-06-2007, 06:07 PM Choose your weapon Grasshopper.....and hone your skill until it is razor sharp!:uhuh:
GonnaCatchABig1 10-07-2007, 03:24 AM AH HA!!! my striperless streak is over!! 24" put the end to that! now it's time to start catching up with every one else.....
bassballer 10-09-2007, 03:41 PM BIG PLUGS = BIG BASS
upgrade your bait and the fish will too. Keep pluggin away.
MarshCappa 10-11-2007, 10:34 AM Keep at it! That's what i keep telling myself. You seem to be on the right track. It always happens when you least expect it.
GonnaCatchABig1 10-11-2007, 02:16 PM now i gotta figure out what i did to make the fish NOT hate me. probably had something to with sitting on a dock from 9 till 4 am in snow flurries that night. (extremely light ones mixed in with the rain)
i personally think it's the new waders.. got out and get a pair first night. the black sea bass.. next night a striper.. and no blooos. either they are a lucky pair.. or the fish just think i look sexy in spandex like apparel. :bl:
it's certainly not the actual function of the waders cause both were from shore..
oh well... now they better keep workin.. i got the fever back.. was ready to pack it up. going from 20 fish a day to nothing for two months is pretty disheartening to say the least.
