My kids have a bay tank, a salt water aquarium that is filled with small fish, crabs, clams etc they net in local salt ponds. This week they very excited as they caught a couple of fish they had never seen before. They came home thinking Dad will know but I have never seen it either. I have looked thru a couple books that did not have it and I am about to go online to seek it out... any ideas?

This is a beautiful bright orange docile fish that swims slowly. My son netted it with a scoop net it moves so slowly. Sorry the photo is blured. Photo's thru glass and water are tricky. It is hard to see but there are white spots on each dorsal spine. it is about 1.5 inches in length.

(It was netted in lake tashmoo)

Interesting. Whatever it is, it doesn't look like it belongs in a coastal NE salt pond. That's pretty cool.

I observed a bright orange fish that was about 12 inches long in The Lagoon Pond in Vineyard Haven back in August. Looked very similar to your find from Tashmoo.
As yet unidentified. Matter of fact had forgotten about it till seeing yours.
Perhaps asking somebody over at that wildlife place Somethings Neck, they might help.

It actually looks like a Damsel fish. I wish my saltwater aquarium books were'nt packed away.
