I would build one tomorrow if I could get a fire marshall to confirm his math calculations on explosive air mixtures. It would be great for waterbase stuff but I'm not sure on the laquer. ProfessorM 10-19-2007, 05:27 PM I am a little skeptical too but i am no expert on that type of stuff.. I may incorporate his hose thing to dry the paint before it clogs up my fan I have now . It would eliminate the need for a filter in front of the fan I think. Might be worth a try. P. vineyardblues 10-19-2007, 07:03 PM Gee Scott , you need to relax a bit :grins: He said he built if for his wife :btu: VB smitty919 10-19-2007, 07:03 PM that guy is a dumbass. I would hate to be in his shoes spraying lacquer in that thing. His house insurance would be toast. Not even mentioning that his fan is not explosion proof. STOOPID. His little idea of drying lacquer paint inside the hose is going to cause a fire also. As the film thickness builds up it can and will spontaneously combust... BOOM. most hvac blower motors are seald units so if im not rong thay are explosion proof. you can probley make a epoxy dry system with that as well just turn off the fan and put a spinner in it. ProfessorM 10-19-2007, 07:05 PM Gee Scott , you need to relax a bit :grins: He said he built if for his wife :btu: VB LOL, Hey nutbag it rained all day long I am only interested in water based paints smitty919 10-20-2007, 05:34 AM Motor has to be external to the hazardous atmosphere. I will stick by what I said. That is a dumbass thing to do and the guy is risking a fire or explosion. One less idiot in the gene pool. thats not true but any way i will just let it rest smitty919 10-20-2007, 12:51 PM Sorry but it is true... You can google it yourself and read the regs... "nfpa rules for hazardous atmosphere, spray booth motor" (4) Fan-rotating element. The fan-rotating element shall be nonferrous or nonsparking or the casing shall consist of or be lined with such material. There shall be ample clearance between the fan-rotating element and the fan casing to avoid a fire by friction, necessary allowance being made for ordinary expansion and loading to prevent contact between moving parts and the duct or fan housing. Fan blades shall be mounted on a shaft sufficiently heavy to maintain perfect alignment even when the blades of the fan are heavily loaded, the shaft preferably to have bearings outside the duct and booth. All bearings shall be of the self-lubricating type, or lubricated from the outside duct. (5) Electric motors. Electric motors driving exhaust fans shall not be placed inside booths or ducts. See also WAC 296-24-37005. (6) Belts.Belts shall not enter the duct or booth unless the belt and pulley within the duct or booth are thoroughly enclosed. (7) Exhaust ducts. Exhaust ducts shall be constructed of steel and shall be substantially supported. Exhaust ducts without dampers are preferred; however, if dampers are installed, they shall be maintained so that they will be in a full open position at all times the ventilating system is in operation. Guys don't be a statistic. This guy has no clue. I can't believe he's showing people how to do this online. Like I said one less for the gene pool... you have made me a beleaver i will not dispute and i will not build one thats for sure sorry for our little fight lol.:chatter striperondafly 10-22-2007, 09:08 AM how many plug builders have had stuff iginite??? I am paranoid and don't mess around - but I wonder if it's just from reading all the stuff I read here. I have never read any post of my shop ignited. Maybe people are afraid to admit it or maybe it just don't happen often :chatter capesams 10-22-2007, 11:25 AM your insurance co. will tell you if your covered or not.....better ask them....before it goes boom. LaPala 10-22-2007, 10:34 PM That guy is Ed Walicki http://www.fishcarver.com/ He's a world champion fish carver and does this day in day out. If his studio is not burnt down by now with him painting 24" fish carvings, i don't think 6" lures will produce enough fumes to explode. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
