Its a "Danny-Type" lure......it will not be called a "Danny" but it is one! (Name is forthcoming) 6 1/4 inches long and 3 ounces. They will be available with eyes and "blind"! They will be available with 2 belly trebles and a dressed siwash or just 1 belly treble and 1 tail treble (which is how I prefer mine).

Yup! Limited! I find the "Danny" a tough sell.....there are a few good ones out there. However I have had a few folks request these so I have been working on getting them just right....and they are. So we will see how they sell, and how folks like them.:btu: My numbers figure to be less than 300 available for the season.

Can I ask a dumb question?

if so...

why not call a danny a danny???

copyright issue??.. if so.. has it been tested lately?

at this point in time, i think it refers more to a style of swimmer... than anything else.... and more than one lure company sells dannys...

just wondering.. while i'm eatin my lunch...

Hi Karl.....I probably missed you on your lunch hour? Anyway...in answer to your question about the name. Dennis Ryan who owns Gibbs approached me at the RISSA show in March and nicely asked me not to use the "Danny" name......claiming they owned the rights to it, blah, blah, blah! Now I know alot of people make them and they all call them "Danny's"......and I doubt if any of them were ever approached and I also doubt that Gibbs owns the name.......but I like Dennis and he asked me as a gentleman so.....whats a guy to do? They will be called something else.....obviously they are "Danny's" and I will refer to them as "Danny-style" lures regardless. You can't please all the people all of the time!:tooth:

It amazes me that Danny's are such a tough sell - they are my favorite plug to fish.

See you at RISAA :)

Pearl?......But of course!;)

Maybe not that they are a hard sell as there are many different builders who make them and I need to test the market before I go too crazy! Its hard to get fishermen to try anything new!

Its hard to get fishermen to try anything new!

that isn't exactly true , just post some pics on the internet with the plug in some slobs face. I think it's partially true the not knowing if it works part and the too cheap to shell out some money part if they already have something that works.

anyway, I like Dennis, he is a nice guy.

good luck Larry, you have good paint skills.

You should sell them just fine, everything I own with a Bigfish name on it has worked so far, you can count me in for a pair when they are available. I know you test your designs enough for me to even worry about it.

Gonna chime in one more time, and apologize in advance for the "Left Turn" your thread took Larry...
But.. this whole thing to me, would be like if Ford told the other companies, you can't call that a pick-up truck, or if Chrylser sadi, no one else can call these mini-vans...
Danny's, Pikies, Danny's, Needlefish, Spook's, Darters.. etc.... the name tells a type.. a design..a certain action.. something we all know what to expect it will do... call it Larry, Curly or Moe, but if it's a Danny.. it's a Danny!

Peace :D

Many make them. Not as many make them right. Or they're extremely rare and/or expensive. There's definitely a market, in my opinion.

yup. there will be a market if they swim right and are relatively easy to get (available). problem is that alot of people have bought some of the new danny's that come along every once in a while and are disappointed. eventually they give up on buying and being dissappointed and spend their efforts trying to get their hands on the "rare and/or expensive" ones as Pete said. Just look what a BM or RM Smith danny gets on ebay and SOL. If your danny's swim right, and I'm not trying to imply that they won't, and you can get them out to some experienced and impartial testers and develop good word of mouth - I think you'll do really well with them and find a market. The impartial thing is the tough part. Everybody kind of kisses everyones ass on these sites when it comes to plugs (usually trying to get free stuff) and it gets to the point that you can't trust 95% of the opions on plugs given here, especially plugs made by sponsors (kind of a "he's one of us" thing).

Clogston29
11-01-2007, 01:06 PM
wasn't trying to imply anyone sucks, hope it didn't come off that way. just pointing out that its tough to get good word of mouth going because opinions get so watered down, and that seams to be the most important thing when it comes to marketing and creating demand for plugs.

Rockport24
11-01-2007, 01:49 PM
sorry about that!! didn't mean for it to come off like you were implying that Josh... I know you weren't... I was just making light of your quite true observation that it's tough to find impartial plug testers, so I was just making a joke taking it to the other extreme...sorry if it didn't come off that way... damn internet, it's tough to be sarcastic!

oh yeah I'm not impartial to Larry's plugs because I mostly only use his blitzseeker for topwater stuff!! it's a great plug and I almost cried when I lost one this weekend.

6.25 inches and tree ounces sounds like a NIB plug .
Not that I have made anything to deserve the credit.

Anyways I think U should call it the "NIB"
I have a idea what to do with the NIB..
U can say thro NIB at a bluefish.. Wreck-a-NIB..
See the possibilities are endless.
Looks good Larry..
Good luck..

Why not just call Dan Smalley and ask for verification of the trademarked name? Seems a simple way to end the controversy.

And while we are at it how's about a needle or two in the line up one large and one medium?

Slingah
11-13-2007, 06:11 PM
I wouldnt call it a Danny.....it's a swimmer.....
call it the "3D" Swimmer.....
