Got to witness quite the spectacle with these birds dive-bombing adult pogies right along the rocks on the North Shore this morning. I have only ever seen them on Deep Blue on the discovery channel so it was an awesome site. Get ready to the south of here as it was Bluefish that were pushing the pogies up with some slob bass cleaning up underneathe it all. I could not snag a pogie but did steal one from some gulls who could do nothing but peck at it. Tossed the head in but no cow bass cooperated. Couple of fly-guys did well despite the wind and managed some keeper bass.

Question- besides the obvious pogie live and chunk- what lures do you suggest to avoid the blues and get down to where the big bass are?

And what is that rule again about playoff baseball and good football against potentially great fishing? I am a bit torn about the afternoon/evening??????

As for lures take your pick, I use Needles two tone dark top light bottom,

as for sports, Go fishing it is only a couple more weeks then we have all winter to sit on our butts :smokin:

Thats a great question, I always struggle to get anything past those giant piranas but I have managed 1 or twice with a heavy diamond jig or leadhead.As far as the sports i try to fish and watch them.

A bucktail jig with a strip of porkrind. Use a jig heavier than you think you need ad get down quick. Try and cast over the choppers and drag & bounce back. :eek:

Love watching gannets feeding. My wife and i went to cape saint Mary's in Newfoundland last Sept. Talk about the end of the world. We saw about 30 000 gannets and it wasn't even nesting season

Can't say I've ever been lucky enough to have this problem, but I'd try a big white danny with no tail hook thrown off behind the school and twitch/crawl it more than retrieve it. Pretty sure any big bass cleaning up after the blues would come up to have a look.

A few years back a friend and I were mackeral fishing off Rockport MA. and we had a huge school of macks just under the surface and we were filling the little tin boat we were in when all of a sudden you would have thought someone dropped a cinder block from a plane and another and another --- It was aflock of gannets diving on the macks. Scared the whoopy pies right out of us . But what a sight. they would just fold up the wings and drop like a rock. I bet if they missed the water they would have gone thru the bottom of the boat.

I love Newfoundland! Wify and I have made a couple of trips over the past years. Sure would like to go one more time. The only downside is I don't think Stripers swim that far.

I would try a bucktail, with a pork trailer.:)

We had several Gannets diving down just south of Quonset, in the last 2 days.I thought it was a Pelican......lol
