big time this morning. Between your favorite rocky cove and one just south of Cohasset harbor, I boated approximately 20-25 keepers up to a 17 lber. All told probably 20 blues outside first thing, before we found the bass were in tight right against the beaches and rocks. Maybe 40-50 stripers for me, most on the 5-1/2" splittail, with the two biggest coming on a saltwater chrome chug bug (love that popper). Friend Pete finally took at day to fish and he picked a great one. Was wet running around, but then again, we didn't do much running.

The spot down by the glades had 3 guys on the point slinging eels but they got nada, while we were catching on every cast not more then 50 yards inside the cove. I doubt those stripers would have touched an eel swum right threw them, they were definately keyed in on the peanuts. I'd bring some plastic with you, because them bass would have been at your feet, so you won't need a big stick.

I just got off the water, and I have to thank you again! The spiral hooks you showed me made all the difference in the world tonight, for the first time.

We were throwing up into rocky shallow water, (something I don't normally do often) and regular jigs were doing the nose-dive thing. Caught fish, but not great. Thought about the conditions being almost exactly like yours, so I put on one of your hooks with the plastic I normally use, and POW POW POW! They were now gobbling the 7-inchers!

Turns out, when on those hooks, these lures sink in a big spiral just like your plastic. Surprising to me, as the shape is so different. I was kicking myself for not having your rubba on the boat with me, but it was really OK in the end. I'm saving them for the shallow fishing when the big fish come back, and we were catching as fast as possible anyway. They would have simply been wasted on schoolies and bluefish.

Just wanted to thank you again for the new (to me) trick. Will remember you every time I'm in shallow water. Hopefully, next time you are in deep, swift water, you will give the ones I gave you a shot, and they will work as well for you.

I'm glad some old dogs can learn new tricks:). The key to that spiral is partly due to the bait design, but primarily due to the fact the weight is spread out over the length of the hook shank and not all at the nose. For any of you shore fishers, if your not using it, your missing out. Not just for the slow spiral and sinking characteristics, but for the fact the rig will almost never snag. In fact in over a decade of fishing this rig, I doubt I've lost more than a dozen hooks due directly to a snag.

And I can really verify that.

Didn't lose a single lure to the rocks after switching to your spiral weighted hooks. In fact, after a little while, I was throwing those hooks in places I never would have before.

Good stuff! Now I need some in the 1-2 ounce range, for the big rip-rap over the tunnels of the CBBT... Got any in that weight class, Bob?

The 5-1/2" split tail with my usual solder in a double wrap tops out around 1-1/2 oz, but you can get close to 2-1/2 oz with the 7 inch version on a 7/0 hook and going up to a heavier diameter solder. It won't fall like a 2-1/2 oz canal jig since the weight is spread out, but hey that's why they work so well :).

Basic Patrick, JohnR and you all know who you are. Fished that place tonight. Got there around 530, no birds, no bait. I checked from Nantasket all the way to that place nada. I spoke with a guy who lives there. He was fishing. He told me that the fish were in there for the last couple of weeks, heavy at times. He also said that yesterday there were fish there all day from 1100 to 1900. He had not seen a fish or drop of bait tonight. I fished till 930 not even a splash. As fast as they cleared out they could come back. Maybe the weekend will have better news. :(

Tony, that's the weight of the hook, solder and rigged bait. I got your pm's on pouring shank weighted hooks and will give it a thought, just don't know if I have the time to get into pouring lead as well. I would be interested in seeing your hooks and maybe you could send me a couple to test.

Specialist - that place often has small stuff during the day and can be lively at sunset - but that's the SMALLER fish. The big gals, when they're in, are a pic. No big blitzes, just some decent fish. Not many shore bound spots for big blitzes of big fish up there, right?

My best nights there have been days when you see tons of blues and smaller bass around sunset, then they disapear and you have bigger fish on the eels. Sure you can toss some smaller stuff and get the smaller fish but an eel is the ticket there for nicer fish...

Yah your favorite not so secret spot with limited parking that no one knows about!;) I'm headin out Friday after work and will check all my spots. The Plymouth area the fish are on the move too but when you find them its easy. Specialist call me if you want to meet up.

It SUCKS, there is no fish there, no parking, no bait, no rocks, no sand, and no water :p - Just because a half dozen people I know have their personal best fish caught there does not mean it's a good spot. Sadly, it's one of those spots that puts out just enough fish to get you back and make you miserable....

Seriously, I've been skunked over the half the times I've been there year.
