Sadly interesting.

They(Wompanoag)have long said they want S. Cape Bch area to develop and the shunned members want to take back all Mashpee land that was taken from them 1800's?. I beleive it was 1978 law suit that said because they are not a fed. recognized tribe then they cannot have the land back but now that they are recognized what will happen. Glad I dont live in Mashpee.

I breezed the article but did not see what I suspect would happen which would be that everything would remain the same (fed running it) except they get a cut.

Gonna watch this one with interest.. IF it is declared Tribal Land.. then.. Federal adn State Laws.... are out the window.. do not apply.. article stated that the tribe could run any, or all programs, currently run by Feds......
This could be a Massive Change, if it goes through...

What do you think they would do with it? Agreed on a massive change.

Plovers... are they protected on tribal land? Seals?

Still think it would be status quo with a small price for doing business:smash:

It'll be your title insurance company's problem, not yours, on the one half of one percent chance that they're successful.

Let me tell you something about courts, based on 24 years experience in them--if they can sidestep an issue instead of ruling on it, they will. When they ruled that the Wampanoags didn't have standing back in the 70s, it was an easy way to sidestep an issue. If they have to rule on the issue now, how do you think it will go--in favor of bankrupting every title insurance company in New England, displacing thousands of people and throwing Mashpee's tax base into chaos, or in favor of a handful of tribal dissidents, most of whom have as much "native American" blood in them as I do?

The Masspee Indians never liked the idea that they could not hunt and fish in Masspee where they wanted to. This might not be a bad thing if you do not own land on the outer Cape.

Read "Wampanoags" = "Were only in this for the money". That is all this tribal thing is all about. They used public sentiment and political correctness to get recognized even though there has not been a full blooded Wamponaog since 1880 something and most are related to West African blood or assimilated various ethnic backgrounds than native amarican. The Aquinnah tribe wants nothing to do with them.

Reality what a concept.

Right on Brother! And they wouldn't have gooten staus if it wasn't for Herb Strather the millionaire Casino developer putting up millions for thier legal fund ( with a stipulation of course as to who gets to build and operate thier new casino)

The whole thing stinks.

I'm sure they thought the whole thing stunk when the Anglo-Saxon said we don't want to share your land we want it all,and now that they have a chance to stick it back at him everyone's upset. Such is life.

I didn't particularly like it when they called my grandmother a dirty wop, or when they fleeced my grandfather out of his business, or denied my uncle a journeyman plumber's license because they were all "stupid guineas".

But, I got over it. And I certainly don't blame their grandchildren for what they did.

I don't like it when they ask me if I went to college on a b-ball scholarship, or when they pretend they forgot to tell their real estate agent they already rented the place,or when they ride by and yell the"N" word while I'm playing with my kid in a public park. I just think it is ironic that people get so upset when someone who's been stepped on for so long finally gets a chance to get something back.Karma that's all.

You have a valid complaint because the people who are doing this are doing it in the here and now. To you or to your kids.

You aren't trying to take something that may or may not have been taken illegally from your great-great grandparents almost 200 years ago, from people who paid legitimately to own it now, and have never done anything to you.

I have issues with people because of what they have done to me or my family personally. I have no issues with groups of people just because of what they look like, or because of what their ancestors may have done to my ancestors.
