Circlehook 11-18-2007, 07:16 PM I want to thank everyone here for all the advice and info this site provided this year. I went from an uninformed schoolie hunter in March, to the point here in November where I was catching larger and larger each time out, with a method to my mayhem, no longer relying on pure luck.
My best this year was 38", 20 lb. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will. ( help please)
Let's see everyones best this year!
congrats on the higher education, just think...It only gets better form here on out!

Squibby17 11-26-2007, 09:58 AM That Picture Rocks! I nominate a new front page.
Thanks Karl - back in Sept when the blues were too thick. Didn't I show you that plug that was wittled down? I got tired of hooking them, then teased them with a hookless plug, then waded into them and emptied my card. That was in the corner of one of my shots and my cousin photoshopped it to center, enlarge, etc. If you'd like pm your email and I'll send some others, but nothing as good..
Rappin Mikey 11-26-2007, 12:02 PM Nice pic tuna. I'm already missing it over there. I second the nomination for that being the new front page when the current one has run it's course.
RickBomba 11-26-2007, 01:14 PM Yeah, that's one cool pic...maybe thinking of blowing it up and hanging it!

Rockfish9 12-03-2007, 11:52 AM A cod striper double, cod was caught on the bottom hook on a clam, the bass was caught on a live lined Mackerel fishe 18" above the clam in 160' of water 5 miles off shore... the Mackerel was intended for a whale cod...
The only bass I kept this season, I donated them to charity fresh fish dinner....these were part of an all night September blitz...
Back Beach 12-03-2007, 12:24 PM She measured 43" x 25" girth= 33.5# when she swam away.
Hooooooooollllllllly sheeeeeeeeeeiiiit, that's a heavy one.
Had quite a few that same length and girth that only went 27-28# on the official scale.
RIROCKHOUND 12-03-2007, 12:30 PM Hooooooooollllllllly sheeeeeeeeeeiiiit, that's a heavy one.

Yup. that'd be a moo cow.
had a fatty that was 43" and 28lbs on a scale as well...
BassDawg 12-03-2007, 01:05 PM Hooooooooollllllllly sheeeeeeeeeeiiiit, that's a heavy one.
Had quite a few that same length and girth that only went 27-28# on the official scale.
So how long was your fish out of the water until you could put it on a certified digital scale? You do know that stripers lose weight the longer they are out of tha surf, right?
Just going by the math, bro! And using the C&R Formula that OTW and others employ. Somebunny onehelluvalot smarter than me came up with it and most people accept it, so that's good enuff for me. Unless of course YOU have a better calculation, something more accurate than that one for the Striper Coast to use?
Not worth it ~to me~ to kill any fish, especially LAHHHGE (50# - 70#), to place it on a scale at some B&T. I'd much rather take her pic, and take some measurements, and then let her go make sum more babies and somenight return; to be the New World Record beneath the cover of a dark new moon.
NOW!!! That BEEEOTCH is comin' Home with Tha DAWG!
Iff i should ever be so prepared AND so opportunistic :bl: :bl: :bl:!!!
Back Beach 12-03-2007, 01:07 PM Yup. that'd be a moo cow.
had a fatty that was 43" and 28lbs on a scale as well...
Maybe had a few of these in her...
Back Beach 12-03-2007, 01:24 PM You do know that stripers lose weight the longer they are out of tha surf, right?
BD,
I actually disagree with the notion that fish lose a lot of weight once they are out of the water. I know you didn't invent the theory of weight loss, nor the weight formula. Lots of people have posed it over time.
The ones I weighed were out of the water less than one hour.
BassDawg 12-03-2007, 01:37 PM That's cool. Which scale do you use?
The Boga's look nice, definitely pricey.............
How accurate do the springloaded scales remain over the course of several seasons? Seems like a repetitive use sort of thing, ie the more you max one out or use it, then the less accurate it becomes over time. Am thinking of investing in a good Boga. Less handling the better, eh?
RIROCKHOUND 12-03-2007, 01:39 PM Certified scale = a bait shop with a certified scale OR a commercial market with a certified scale...
jim sylvester 12-03-2007, 02:44 PM intersting couple of posts
I had two fish thidssd year that was identical to the length/girth you guys are talking about
both were weighed for the cup
one went 34.60
one went 28.40
the heavier one had an enormous head and shoulders
the smaller was your average bass
alot comes into play when you are talking weight.....thats why theres two choices
get it officially wieghed (ie tourney, table )
or guestimate the weight within a pound or two
just me 2 cents
BassDawg 12-03-2007, 03:08 PM Certified scale = a bait shop with a certified scale OR a commercial market with a certified scale...
that's all well and good Bry,
but that would impact my C&R ratio, most negatively doan ya think :bl:?!
I agree with jimmySly. It all depends on genes................
Sum GURLS are just BIGGER than udder ones :wiggle: :wiggle:.
Cain't weight to see what me Honey Cove hits me with next summer!!
And that BEAST from last Sept, or her bigger sister, will be MINE:lasso:!!!
chris L 12-03-2007, 03:49 PM I very seldom weigh fish because
From the ice-age to the dole-age
There is but one concern
I have just discovered :

Cannot seem to attach any pix. I keep getting the fatal error message ~over and over and over..........................
Was trying to show you the average size of the fatty's that frequent "my spot" up Cape Ann way. Not juicers by any means, but theys some big boneded beetches, at times. Some racers run in and out of there as well. It's all gooood :btu:.

keeperreaper 12-04-2007, 03:36 PM Here is BassDawgs pic.
BassDawg 12-04-2007, 04:11 PM Thank you The Dad, and Keeper.
Not sure what went wrong before and your help is most appreciated.
The first one was landed in early Sept and went 37". The discoloring is due to the fact that that fish was out of the water for prolly three hours.....................
The second fish was caught in early July and was my first keeper of the year. The yellow tape is at 32". Not my "best" by far, but some indicators of the "average" sized fish that seem to prefer my little slice of the Striper Coast :bl:.
Next year my pix should be easier to take and post since the bride wants a digital to be our joint present to each other. We've been eyeing the Olympus Stylus 790?? Seems to have all the right features.............
Thanks again, gents for your IT help.
animal 12-04-2007, 06:48 PM The first one was landed in early Sept and went 37". The discoloring is due to the fact that that fish was out of the water for prolly three hours.....................
Why would such a hard core C/R guy like yourself, keep a fish outta water for 3 hours?
BassDawg 12-04-2007, 09:13 PM Did ya read the part that said keepers, Bob???
Also, it wasn't until i read about the mercury and PCB levels inherent to the Hudson Stock that I decided to become mostly C&R except for two a year, one for me and one for my sister ~who lives in Jamestown. I made that decision in October, or thereabouts. Please see the Mercury Rising Thread I started <<<<<<ova there.
That being said, I've always kept my C&R window between 32" and 42". Next year I'm prolly gonna go with 36" to 40". Everything else is going back to live and fight again, and hopefully become a BIGGER gurl for my grandkids :btu:.
The only exceptions that I may make next year is one or two fortays and a fiddy for the Striper Cup, since after all there is a Toyota Tundra up for grabs :sled:!!!!!
Besides we can't let jimmySly have all the glory can we, Bobby :jester: :jester:??
Nice SLOB, Jimmy!!!!
Tough call, though, because I truly believe that the more 50's we keep the less 60's, 70's, 80's there'll be down the road......................
animal 12-04-2007, 09:44 PM Did ya read the part that said keepers, Bob???
Uhhhm, yeah,we thought you were keeping shorts, based on your pix.Thanx for clearing that up.Also, thanx for changing your screen-name,so everyone here can hate you as well.
BassDawg 12-04-2007, 09:54 PM Is it the voice of reason that upsets you so, Bobby?
Or the fact that someone else besides YOU, might actually have a salient point or three to make? Why so much hate from such a young man? That stuff will eat ya up from the inside out, bro.
Choose to bless rather than curse, love rather than hate, encourage rather than discourage. It will add years to your life, and life to your years :btu: :btu:.
Slingah 12-04-2007, 10:03 PM It's really starting to look like another forums regional page here...
Why don't you all do this back and forth in a private messages so we don't have to be subjected to it...:rollem:

JohnR 12-05-2007, 09:39 AM Yep - what happens on the "other site" stays on the "other site"
And with that said - let's get back to the original thread... :btu:

That being said, I've always kept my C&R window between 32" and 42". Next year I'm prolly gonna go with 36" to 40". Everything else is going back to live and fight again, and hopefully become a BIGGER gurl for my grandkids :btu:.
The only exceptions that I may make next year is one or two fortays and a fiddy for the Striper Cup, since after all there is a Toyota Tundra up for grabs :sled:!!!!!
Besides we can't let jimmySly have all the glory can we, Bobby :jester: :jester:??
Nice SLOB, Jimmy!!!!
Tough call, though, because I truly believe that the more 50's we keep the less 60's, 70's, 80's there'll be down the road......................

striperondafly 12-06-2007, 09:31 PM went Tilefishing/Tuna - heck we had everything with us sword rigs you name it - my buddies largest fish ever till he landed a 120 lb yellowfin 6 hours later. A SICK Day. The fishing was so good, this was the only pic I took the entire day. Tiles where in 880 ft of water.
