View Full Version : Herring,Gannets, and a 1 last push of big bass.
ilovetwofish 11-21-2007, 07:20 PM I have been fishing from gansett to watch hill everyday waiting to see Herring,Gannets, and 1 last push of big bass. Do you think they will show up in these areas. Most people I talk to along the beaches think its far from over im up in the air about it ,kinda think its just dinks the rest of the way wich I am getting except today. What do you guys think?
spence 11-21-2007, 08:11 PM If you've been fishing everyday waiting to see something that hasn't come...that might just tell you something ;)
From here on out it's a crap shoot.

redcrbbr 11-22-2007, 03:17 AM there isn't a fork stuck in me yet. 1 small keeper size fish released for tonight...i mean this am
Moses 11-22-2007, 07:32 AM I'd say you'll see them w/i the next week. There was a push up these parts (just north of canal), sometimes they were close to shore other times just out of casting range. Lots & lots of diving birds. By this time, who knows how far south they've travelled......
ilovetwofish 11-22-2007, 08:08 AM Thanks for you responses I thought there would be more maybe the rest of you just dont no.when I do get into something I will P.M. the ones who were willing to offer a opinion to bad for the rest.
tattoobob 11-22-2007, 08:14 AM There usually isn't alot of people around on a holiday
afterhours 11-22-2007, 09:10 AM ran the beaches in soco pre-dawn on this am and checked out the usual spots- nada.....just some dinkage.
basswipe 11-22-2007, 09:14 AM I broke out the early Spring schoolie rod and had some fun with a few little guys this am.
Salty 11-22-2007, 11:25 AM The last 3 weeks, I have been out every day from Narr to Watch Hill, and have had a good 3 weeks, In the last week, I have had 2 days where the gannets were as far as the eye could see, some days in the morning and some in the afternoon but the fish were there every day, I put in a lot of time and a lot of gas.
ilovetwofish 11-22-2007, 12:55 PM Ive been out everday and more times then not have done well with all little ones. $50 dollars every otherday in gas, the wife is ready to kill me, I just cant help it but no keeper sized fish or ganets.
eelskimmer 11-23-2007, 12:49 PM ilovetoofish and salty,
Admire your persistence and gas money. They will come in next
few days. As a matter of fact I am thinking of dawn patrol tomorrow
for dinks and blues--maybe the boids/bass/herring will be there. Nice
combo of tide and sunrise tomorrow and Sunday tho' very cold.
Monday, front coming thru, so it may end this weekend. If I get down
will shoot youse a PM.
piemma 11-23-2007, 02:48 PM So instead of wasting $300 worth of gas chasing dinks, buy some eels. Go out on a dropping tide in the DARK, as far WEST as you can go and fish. You will not catch any schoolies. You may catch nothing. I guarentee that if you do get a take it will be a GOOD fish. End of story.
They will all show up when we get back to work on Monday morning.
ilovetwofish 11-23-2007, 06:31 PM Went out this morning got into some small bass at dawn, (and I do enjoy catching small fish too) was out all day chasing birds but didnt land anything and then at dusk went back to the morning spot again got some more smalls.I heard some adult bunker were snaged and livelined and heard there was a huge school of peanut bunker coming through. Its still looking good.
WadingWill 11-23-2007, 08:52 PM Last Saturday I saw about 30 Gannets working offshore in SOCO. Couldn't get out agian until Thanksgiving and while there were no birds, I caught one small schollie with a skin disease, I guess thats better than the skunk. From what I can tell, and also the people that I've talked to, the Herring haven't run yet, lots of bunker though. Hopefuly we'll run into some large fish, the season is far from over for me.
hardcore from shore 11-24-2007, 08:33 AM First chance to fish in November will be Sunday 11/25, lot's of travel. Winds and tides look pretty good in SOCO so I plan to put a few miles on the fishmobile. Looking for fish but will settle for being in the fresh air getting some exercise and having a shot at some fish.
ilovetwofish 11-24-2007, 11:12 AM I talked to somebody this morning in the mitz of a small bass and big shad blitz that said the herring are still in the gulf of Maine, and still tons of small bunker around far from over I guess.
eelskimmer 11-25-2007, 12:51 PM Saturday dawn patrol, hit every spot except Matunuck Deep Hole
and West Wall. Lots of surfcasters out and big pods of juvenile herring hugging the beach unmolested by fish or bird or man. Birds
breaking on pods two hundred yards out. Few twinkies taken.
Big, last push is coming.
:scream:
hardcore from shore 11-25-2007, 06:21 PM 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM Watch Hill to Narragansett. As you say lots of bait right at beach (hooked plenty of peanuts on my bucktail). Saw birds crash the pods, but not fish, except for what appeard to be big tuna crushing pait 1/2 mile or so off Narragansett Pier.
Saw about 6 schoolies caught at various beaches. But it was a gorgeous day.
Moses 11-25-2007, 06:41 PM Went out with my youngest this afternoon from 130 - 330pm from Charlestown up to Pt Judith. Nothing going on worth mentioning. Then dropped by the SWE to browse and picked up a couple items that seem to be hard to find around me locally (Super Strike Floaters). Nice day regardless.....
ilovetwofish 11-25-2007, 08:24 PM I saw those tuna out in front of hazzard this morning about a 100 yards out some nice sized ones too.
SirWinston 11-25-2007, 10:08 PM 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM Watch Hill to Narragansett. As you say lots of bait right at beach (hooked plenty of peanuts on my bucktail). Saw birds crash the pods, but not fish, except for what appeard to be big tuna crushing pait 1/2 mile or so off Narragansett Pier.

Same to report - went out yesterday pm to get to know a new rod/reel setup (Tsunami Airwave 10' with a Shimano Baitrunner 4500 and 30lb Fireline crystal), saw lots of birds (gulls and a few gannetts) working along the Avenues - and saw some big fish breaking the surface (that I now realise were tuna). Lost a schoolie there, but got one later in Matunuck. Was glad not to get a skunk on the first time out with that rig!! :wiggle:
Superstitious, moi? I am a fisherman, after all....
Out again today in Matunuck this pm, there were a lot of birds all over (gulls), and LOTS of bait - I had to give up using lures with trebles as they were snagging peanuts on every cast. It was only marginally better with single hook lures. Only got one hit despite all of the bait, another schoolie that was kind enough to clear the skunk.
Other than that, no sign of gamefish working the bait at all. Still, lovely afternoon, and the stiff SW wind was pretty bracing :D
