The next IGFA World Record Surfcaught Striped Bass..................

Any ideas, gentlemen? This is more of a rhetorical question so there really is no right or wrong answer, here. Just curious as to what "general" area of the Striper Coast as we know it, do the most of our resident sharpies and serious rockhoppers "feel" the next behemoth BASS is likely to be landed?

I realize that there are multiple variables that change from season to season, and that there may not even be that mysterious 80#er+ out there................................

However, this year was a particularily good one with BIG GURLS being tonged consistently from shore and boat. Many PB's were landed, by many wily sharpies and enterprising hungries, alike.

SOOOO, the second part of my question begs.................are we in the middle of a bigger than average yearmates window, and iffin that be true, then how close are we to landing the New World Record and restoring the High Hook to the rightful shores of NE :bl: :uhuh: :bl:?

Or, is the notion of the 80#er and up only the stuff that Striper Dreams be made of? What say you, gents?

Can we only pick one place?? No? OK :hihi: - It will come from or near the primary haunts for bass; Montauk, Block, Cutty, or Back Beaches :hihi: - All places that have before produced record size bass.

If I had to pick only one I'd say probably Montauk as of the 4 listed I'm learning it is both unique and has heavy pressure

I predict it will be fresh water caught. The amount of bait they have to eat in those lakes, being top dog in the food chain, and the girth of some of the 60+ lb fish I have seen make me think fresh water.

Ill tell you when I catch it ;)

The probability of landing a record monster bass would occurr at least 20 years from the years with highest indexes. Early as 2009.

Not too far north of the current, say LBI if by shore. Farther south if by boat, say Cape May.

How many of us truly believe that an 80#er+ is out there, and if so will she and her yearmates be fooled in NY, NJ, CT, RI, or MA?

Sort of a two-fold response, but I've heard some people say that we are in the midst of some really BIG GURLS between now and the next three years or so????

Interesting stuff to occupy these long and cold winter months ahead of us..........................................

How will most feel if the next WR Striped Bass is caught on a snagged bunker dropped back into the school? Will some feel resent if it is not caught by a fisherman that has put in their time? I personally would like to see the fish come under adverse conditions or by a surf fisherman.

First of all, the person the catches the next Wr is deserving of all the accolades whether it is a "sharpie", a "newbee" or a "googan". I am not even effected if by Boat or Surf as both present their unique challenges. (I feel boat and surf fishing are completely different sports)

From where...the majic triangle....Draw a line from Montauk to Squibby to Narragansett bay and it will be inside these borders.

i agree with professorM.... the stripers caught in the freshwater ponds have enormous girths, and they have all the bait in the world to fatten up on. Other than that.... it could be caught anywhere in the big ocean

That is a very interesting concept and could be applied to many different parts of the NE Striper Coast, one could draw "Hot Spot" lines within each state, between certain rocks within certain coves, and lines could be drawn for specific general areas ~ie The Ditch.

You've also just aided me Log book immensely. Now, my maps will have 'cast here triangles', so to speak...................

That's an excellent answer for from where the next behemoth shall come, but how's about iffin ya had to pick an area for a legitimately landed surfcaught New IGFA worthy COW? There are some who I've heard say that a Trophy of that size is next to impossible from "these" NE shores.

But hey, I'm a "my cup runneth over" guy ~well beyond the glass full or empty, and ever vigilant and hopeful that one of us lucky~hard hittin'~rockhoppin' bastages will LAND the LAHHHGE of a Lifetime here, in New England :kewl::humpty::humpty::kewl:!!
