View Full Version : How many trips did you make?
Back Beach 11-24-2007, 09:53 AM Little slower than normal for me w/new child, but managed about 20-25 trips.
I ask this every year, so here goes the 2007 version.
Who's the biggest junkie here?
chief10 11-24-2007, 10:26 AM I made it out about 100 trips. I wasn't working early in the spring so I went everyday until the end of june.
buckmanjr 11-24-2007, 10:53 AM We got out till the end of June about 20 times, boated about 200 20+ pound fish and 100 more keepers. After that we went to tuna, only got one.
ilovetwofish 11-24-2007, 10:59 AM Well I ended my season in Jan. and started in April and slill fishing every day sometimes twice and will end around Dec. 13. so probably 200 to 225 times most places were close to home.
keeperreaper 11-24-2007, 11:01 AM Probably 75 trips. 40 for bass the rest offshore. :tm: Way off from last year but they were all fun and memorable. Countless bass, 150 + tuna, marlin, wahoo, etc. Not a bad year. Next year will be better.
cheferson 11-24-2007, 11:03 AM 130+
tattoobob 11-24-2007, 11:05 AM Most of my trips were one nighters 40, but I did do a couple of weeks 2, and about 10 weekends
The Dad Fisherman 11-24-2007, 11:10 AM I'd say about 55-60 trips out
I don't know. I didn't go much until June and really slowed down after about Oct. 15. I did manage 10 nights in a row in early September.
capecodkid 11-24-2007, 12:32 PM Between 100-150.
onsetangler 11-24-2007, 01:47 PM Between 100-150.
Same here, more next year.
Between Ice fishing fresh water and saltwater 115 times according to my log. ThomT
riverrat2 11-24-2007, 02:11 PM probably around 75(surf) from mid may-mid june than september-november 10. From Mid JUne till sept 1st, 4-6days a week on the boat
Slingah 11-24-2007, 02:13 PM too many.......around 100....next year I am going to try and cut that in half.....I want to stop fishing like an addict...
I've never counted in all of my years,Im going to try & make a log of it:rotflmao:
Yeah right! If I had a nickle for every time I've made that statement I'd be $$$$
5/0
BW from AZ 11-24-2007, 09:50 PM 2 plane trips=7 days, touched salt maybe 6 times. miserable weather this spring
fresh=20ish
gotta do better
tried for trout this morn, 22 degs. fished 1 1/2 hrs, noda.
leptar 11-24-2007, 10:29 PM 4 maybe 5 times.. only 1 serious outing... Next year God willing i'll be out in atleast half mode... I have an apprentice who has the fishing bug...
He got his first bass this year, a 30" and several large blues... for a 6 year old, i think he's going to do great.... for Christmas he asked me for a plug bag some pocket rockets and some pencil poppers... LOL
basshunter 11-24-2007, 10:32 PM I fished about 100 days this season, 45-50 kayak day trips, the Cape Cod weekend of the Tri-State Tournament, the Maine weekend of the Tri-State Tournament and a week on the Vineyard for the Derby at the Basic Fishing Shack, the rest were day trips from shore. Definitely a record season for me, time-wise anyway, not so much for size, but good numbers..... (and I learned a lot from some good anglers)
hyefisherman2 11-25-2007, 12:03 AM 60-80.
not enough! :wall:
....once i can drive though im doubling my sessions. :uhuh:
Adam_777 11-25-2007, 08:07 AM between 60 and 70 .Avg 2-3 times every week.If wifes on a trip I take the days off and fish em all.Tough with the kids but I manage to get out.
lurch 11-25-2007, 08:58 AM I started around April 15th but when May started I went out maybe 1 or twice a week from April 15th until Halloween with a break in mid July and August. I wanted to get out in November but was just way too busy.
I did not slay the fish but I did learn MANY new techniques and areas to fish so overall my season was awesome! I am fine tuning my fishing skills so next season should be even better.
If I am going to fish more I may need to find a more efficient vehicle...a nice 4cyl 4-door pickup would be very nice.
l.i.fish.in.vt 11-25-2007, 09:17 AM i did 5 trips this season.the first one was 21 days in florida and delaware. the 2 one was 7days on LI the 3rd 0ne 7 days on LI the fourth one 65 days on the cape the last one 7 days on LI on the cape i fished any were from one trip a day to 3trips a day the other trips were spent fishing about 16 hours a day. got quite a bit of fishing time in this season.just hope i can do the same with the upcoming ski season. should get in one more trip to the salt befor i hang the rods up
Back Beach 11-25-2007, 09:39 AM I should show my wife this thread. She thinks I'm obsessed and fish too much.:faga:
Last year I did around 60 trips and that was a lot for me given life's responsibilities.
For you guys that are doing, say, 70 plus nights on the water, does your proximity to the water factor in to the number of trips you make?
chief10 11-25-2007, 10:37 AM for me it does. For parts of the year I might fish early am then head out for a couple of hours at last light in the same day. just because i'm close. later in the year its night fishing only and once I'm out I try to stay out and make the most of my time.
denis 11-25-2007, 10:44 AM Just checked the log,did 77 boat trips and 32 from the shore for 109 and still going.
Adding up the gas slips now, that really hirts.
bloocrab 11-25-2007, 11:27 AM Just curious, does logging on to this website and posting about fishing count as a virtual trip??? :bsod:
I fished on T-s boat about 1/2 dozen times/Thanks T - every trip was a memorable one, even the one that dislodged my right vertabrae :laugha: gotta luv those pounding waves in a bay boat.
Surf Trips?? I couldn't even guess, not that the number was very high, but I now ony log GREAT trips, I got tired of drawing skunks and schoolies in my log book. I didn't fish nearly as much as I did when I had fewer responsibilities...for those about to get married and moving into a single family home, PREPARE yourself for CHANGE in ways you never thought possible!!!
My wife doesn't surf the net so I can say things like that :D

4 sure, that and self employment...I dont know how some do it...
riverrat2 11-25-2007, 02:12 PM somewhere around 200.
???? 6 1/2 months everynight???
???? 6 1/2 months everynight???
probably fishing the thames year round or something. i do think some lie about how many trips they make as much as they do about the size of the fish they catch. :p
jim sylvester 11-25-2007, 02:27 PM [QUOTE=riverrat2;542532]???? 6 1/2 months everynight???[/QUOTE
could have pulled a lot of double shifts
sunrise/sunset/ 2x daily is only 100 days
riverrat2 11-25-2007, 02:42 PM Never thought of it that way, figured trips as in days.
bloocrab 11-25-2007, 04:25 PM logging on to this website and posting about fishing count as a virtual trip
Wait, maybe that should have been a statement and not a question...;) :laughs:.....
or maybe it was

About the same here. Same circumstances!!:chased:

Yes. major factor.
Almost 1/2 mine are trips where I fish half-assed just to go, throw jigs at plan B, maybe live-line a shad, low-effort type stuff... mainly so I dont sit on my ass on the couch.
the other 1/2 are more hardcore. I'd cut the former 1/2 out if I lived further away... and probably trim the latter 1/2 down to the nights where I liked the tide/conditions....
My trip #'s are down from last year, maybe 75 or so this year... a few canyon runs, a few fluke trips, some blackfishing, my boat numbers are down too....
Andy D 11-26-2007, 08:47 AM For me there are a lot of 1/2 ased trips. Throwing the rod in the truck
and driving the shore line. Those are too many to count. Serious trips to my spots might total around 100 more or less.
HESH2 11-26-2007, 09:17 AM about 93 trips this year

If I lived closer than 1 hour from productive big fish water, say 30 minutes or less, I would have no problem doing 2X or 3X what I do now. There would be a lot of quick checks and 1 -2 hour trips to keep things honest. I would probably fish many more locations too.
With an hour plus to the nearest spot, I need the conditions heavily in my favor for the places I like before setting the alarm clock. That said, all of my trips are pretty focused, no half assed trips.
Rockfish9 11-26-2007, 11:40 AM I averaged 5 nights a week from late May through mid October, with a 10 nights in a row stretch in mid August and 12 night straight stretch in late September...about the same as usual, more than I care to count...

same here. i'd like to do some dawn/dusk patrol runs late fall or grab an hour or two before sunrise during the summer, but the percentages just aren't there for a 2 hr round trip drive, 3 hrs if I'm driving to during rush hour. pretty much stick to late night trips.
Flaptail 11-26-2007, 01:21 PM I don't keep track. Some weeks it's 4 or 5 nights then I can go two weeks with only a couple times. Depends on conditions, time of year and my available free time.
My "season" varies and changes seemlessly from saltwater to freshwater then saltwater again. Take for example this past week, Monday night I went bass fishing, Wednesday night I went again with a friend and we did well but all small fish (tide was ginormous though), Friday morning went schoolie fishing in a howler n/west wind at daybreak then we left there and spent the rest of the day downcape trout fishing. Saturday was able to get up to see the new BP Shop in Foxboro, Yesterday went back to the outer cpae and fished several trout ponds with another friend. This week I hope to get out a night or two as there are still a lot of bass to be had though small I just match the gear and I plan to trout fish Saturday and Sunday.
Living on Cape my season really never ends, if the water gets stiff then we walk out on it and chop holes through it until it melts and the waders go back on and the viscious cycle starts anew.
probably fishing the thames year round or something. i do think some lie about how many trips they make as much as they do about the size of the fish they catch. :p
I dont live anywhere near the Thames, and never have lied about size of fish that I catch. I dont know where you got that from. I do often fish more than once a day. BTW I just did a total count of the trips in the log, turns out to be 154. Sorry about the error there.
RickBomba 11-26-2007, 01:50 PM It's actually kind of embarrasing for me...I went to Cutty twice this year (nothing), the Cape many times, Thames, CT river for the May run, and my North Shore haunts like a combined 50 trips this year.
I caught lots of fish, but only two were what I would call memorable.
For me, though, I really don't care about catching big fish, hell, I don't even care about catching anything...I just like being out there.
Now, on the other hand, I just quit my job as GM of a casual dining steakhouse, and going to start working in Eastie as a software support rep, where I can walk outside and fish whenever I want........:hidin:
Yeah, I've been hiding behind that couch for WAAAAAAYYYYY too long.
Talk to me next year.
Later,
Rick
piemma 11-27-2007, 07:46 AM A Ton!!!
Didn't really keep a log but May and June were almost every night/early morning.
Slowed down after July 15 when the big girls left the Bay. picked back up in late August for Blues and then long runs down the Bay for bass. All together over 100 trips.
Not enough trips... Life's responsibilities do take priority - they also make it hard to "select" the right condition nights to fish so I find myself fishing more "less favorable" nights just to be able to get out and fish.
I should show my wife this thread. She thinks I'm obsessed and fish too much.:faga:

BB is right - I should show my wife this, who also thinks I'm obsessed...:smash:
