I use a regular minnow trap. The cylindrical ones with the concave ends, unfortunately, all but the biggest ones can get back out if they're not checked regularly.I've got them in a brackish section of the Pawcatuck, there are plenty of eels.A buddy of mine (who isn't the least bit interested in fishing)says the river(stream)behind his mothers house in Smithfield is loaded with them.As far as bait goes, the best I've used is the cooked shells of steamers(after having eaten them).Giood luck.

Horseshoe crabs are by far the best bait for eels. Next would be any kind of smashed shell fish.

I found a homemade gem at a yard sale. About 40" long, you can fit a volley ball inside it, has a cone only on one end and a hatch on the other end, pot made is of heavy plastic coated wire, thing out fishes everything else.

If you're going to use a minnow trap get the insert that fits in the middle and makes it about a goot and half longer. Less eels will find their way back out.
