I was at Hingham harbor the last two nights at high tide. I saw these fish flashing a 2-3 inch greenish glow. They were in amongst a large school of minnows. I've seen plankton glow when you tip it but this was something different. Any one have an answer ? I've obseved the waters around these parts for a long time but never seen these before.

... for those of you who still think fish is the stuff you buy at a restaurant :smash:
The Electric Eel can grow up to 9 feet in length and weigh 50-60 pounds.
Their electric charge, which comes from their tail, can be up to 600 volts. That's enough to stun and knock out YOU!!!
It has special cells inside its body (in the tail area) that can recharge and produce electrical shocks. Sort of like a battery.
Electric eels hunt by shocking their prey, and then eat it when it can't move.
They live on the river bottom.
9' ???.....I didn't know that!!!

:smash: The fish I saw were small. The glow had the shape of a split tail pork rind (and about the same size) and was a greenish blue color. The glow appears to not be steady but instead flashed on and off. I did not go out last night but they were in at high tide behind the Iron Horse at Hingham harbor.

off the pier where I've observed them there seems to be alot of mid sized minnows. It is fairly dark so it's hard to say. The fish I'm inquiring about are easy to spot in the midst of the minnows. Maybe some one else in the area has seen them at the top of the tide. If you walk out onto the float at the pier by the iron horse you can't miss them. Look on the west side of the float, that is the spot that I've noticed them the most. ;)

Iv'e seen the phosphorus when plankton are tipped and this is not the same. The size and shape are consistant, size and shape are about the same as a split tail pork rind, color is greenish-blue, more on the green side. Peanuts..... what are they:confused:
