Caution religious thread. God isn't for everyone.....Psych! Scared ya didn't I

The 'remember when' thread had me thinking(scary I know)how much times have changed, but this particular 'remember when' I thought stood in a class of its own and that's remember when Sunday was to keep the Lords Day?

Like many of us, when I was a kid Sundays meant church, eating dinner at home, sports in the afternoon, fishing, visiting grand parents and family. Today(not just because of the holidays) its traffic everywhere, stores mobbed with people everybody is rushing around like they got their heads cut off, the last thing their thinking about is family and God.

You look around at these kids that are messed up and whats always the root of the problem, they have no foundation, their parents are to busy working for the material god, or the parents are trying everything in their power to have their little Joey play sports, ya know...the sports god. Then when the kids grow up and realizes that its not all what its cracked up to be or that they can't kick a field goal consistently then in most cases its to late and they will not put their trust in the real God and resort to artificial well beings. And its not just kids, its families its our nation its the world.

Who's freak in great idea was it anyways to make Sunday like any other day? lemme guess, its a way to generate money to stabilize our economy? yeah right.

IMO...people have got common sense and wisdom confused with being smart. Its is our natural way of thinking to think...."I know" when really they don't know. Without actually picking up a book and reading it and understanding it before knowing what something is. I'm not going to talk about politics because I don't know crap about it, but I will say making Sunday like any other day was a big mistake. The bible could have been called the book of common sense but us big headed people wouldn't buy that. They say stuff like "it was written by a man and not God" the excuses are endless. My Buddie said it right...you can take a camel to water but ya can't make him read....I mean drink.

The people took God out of the week, they took it out of schools, their trying to take it out of our currency, you gotta be careful when you say the word Christmas...its like the rapper Ice Tea says..."freedom of speech, just watch what you say"
Anybody notice that at Christmas more people go to church? why is that? maybe because they got some gifts and they feel warm and fuzzy that week. Or did anyone notice that after 911 the church was full and people seek to be comforted.. Gods door is always open, again I think we think we're smarter then we actually are.

Who's freak-in great idea was it anyways to make Sunday like any other day?

That was one of the first steps in removing God from family. It gave everyone an outlet to give up religion. Whether you now had to work or just preferred to go shopping. You had "justifialbe" reasons not to worship or attend a Prayer gathering (Mass).

I too, come from a family of worship. As you stated, Sundays were for church, supper, grandparents and more family. My how that has changed. It's been accepted and continues to grow. Churches have fewer people - therefore, forcing more churches to close and making it easier to lose Faith. The slightest talk of religion makes you a "religion freak" anyway. . .:hs:

Goose, it's easier not to have ....or even believe in a God.
Without the promise of salvation after death, what really keeps ones' conscience in check? What drives you to do the right thing everyday? Do you have to believe in God to get to heaven? If you lead an honest and righteous life will you still get to heaven? Well if you don't believe in God, what IS heaven and why would you want to go there? Having been told of God and his Scriptures, good deeds alone will not save anyone. You must accept God as your saviour and rejoice in your proclamation of Him. If I can sing along at a Rock & Roll concert, why can't I sing-a-long in Church? Back in the day if you didn't believe in God, you were an outcast....Today, if you talk about your beliefs in God, you're weird as well as an outcast. What went wong?

I often wonder when "prayer" threads are started on this board, if people actually pray? Does typing the words - "Prayers sent" with a keyboard - equal praying? Do people actually talk to God and ask for His help in assisting the person in need? Or is it just another  post? ....we'll never know.

satan is hard at work, successfully targeting the church, infesting some of it's preachers with sin and corruption. Do people really want to go to church every week and ask for forgiveness? Or realize their bad deeds of the week and repent? Or do they tell you they're not going to a place where a man in a robe molests children? Satan keeps giving us more and more reasons not to believe. God is everywhere....but so is satan. I've come to the realization that it's not going to get any better. There will be more seperation from God and His Church until the days of Salvation arrive. All one can do is pray that you're ready when you're called or when He comes.
Does talking about God or religion make you better than anyone else? NO - I'm a sinner who will continue to sin. Can I get away with saying - "I'm only human"?....no, I must admit my sin and ask for forgiveness, everytime I do it - - - yeah, We talk a lot me and Him :D.
My parents used to MAKE us pray before going to bed. I never liked it. For one, it made us go to bed earlier than most. Secondly, it took me away from the T.V....and thirdly, I'm not sure I really understood what I was saying at that age anyway. Looking back now, was it a good idea? ABSOLUTELY!
Saying a prayer should be the last thing you do before going to sleep. Perhaps even greater than attending Church Services. Why ? Think about it.....it's the last time you were conscious and aware of what you've done that day. It's your last time to ask for forgiveness before gong to sleep. If you go to bed with sin and die, you die with that sin. Do I remember to pray everynight? NO....I'm far from perfect but I enjoy discussions on God and religion.

Thanks Goose, we need to Dunk a Donut sometime -

God Bless you ALL.

"God is everywhere....but so is satan!!" YUP!!

Kinda brought me back to my childhood when my parents told me those calming bedtime stories. I guess that's why i still today know and daily recite PSALMS 23 and 100 often.. If you own a boat and are out there on one of those days when the weatherman got it wrong (REALLY WRONG), #23 is quite comforting.

Back in the day if you didn't believe in God, you were an outcast....Today, if you talk about your beliefs in God, you're weird as well as an outcast. What went wrong?

Take church building archetier for example. When immigrants came here NewBedford/Fallriver(or city for that matter) if you go down county street in NB you'll see many tall Church's made imported stone in some, steeples as high as they can make them...awesome archetier, there like minnie cathedrals, why, because people put their faith in God and when they got here they realized their prayers where answered they wanted to glorify him the best way they knew how. It wouldn't be realistic to say they should continue to build such structures but look how much times have changed.
When I was a kid every Sunday the church was full. People standing on the sides and in the back and this just didn't happen to be at my church,, I have spoken with many people who say the same thing.

It's about "truth". When we read scripture it doesn't take long that you find out that your being spoken too, that your involved in the story. The bible is the owners manual for our well being...but we now know everything. As long as we have a roof over our heads and food in our bellies and a good money flow then that's whats important because that's what society says. But the real truth is Gods ways are not our ways and when we go against the grain we get splinters. At this point the world is beyond splinters. People don't feel comfortable hearing the truth, the truth sometimes hurts. The truth is a compass, and without guidance(bible) we are lost and that's why society is where it is today.
