Slipknot 12-14-2007, 07:16 PM the island off the coast - Veacus however you spell it is a nice place from what I hear. A good friend of mine lives there now, and actually is up here visiting in the area right now, I could get some info from her for you if you want. She doesn't like the main island other than San Juan. There's a lot of poverty down there as you know so ya have to choose the right places to go. eastendlu 12-14-2007, 07:44 PM Stay away from brockton.:laugha: ProfessorM 12-14-2007, 07:47 PM I live only probably 10 miles away but I do try to avoid it. I got jury duty in Jan. in Brockton though reebok 12-14-2007, 08:17 PM Was there a million years ago. San Juan was a big nothing, just a strip along the coast with nice hotels and nice beaches. Anything further than across the street was slummy. BUT, took a trip around the the perimeter of the island for a few days with a local. THAT is you want to do! Stay away from San Juan. Check out Areicibo Observatory... built into a bowl in the mountains. It's like a jungle and you can take a tour into the caverns and such. It's like a jungle all around. The "mountains" reminded me of Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, small but very high hills... pretty cool to me. Wound up in a fishing village on the western side where there were no tourists.... Watched some boats come in with real big billfish in some tournament. That's what you want to do, take a road trip around the perimeter. The beaches at Dorado were pretty good, just west of San Juan. Check that out if you are stuck. San Juan is just another hotel and margarita tourist twilight zone. But maybe you like that... Swimmer 12-14-2007, 08:22 PM I remember a good friend of mine coming back from PR about twenty years ago. When I ran into him just after the trip he was telling a bunch of guys about seeing advertisements nailed to telephone poles about how to get to Brockton, Mass., and what to do, or who to see about getting on the welfare after they got here. Of all the places in the whole country to go to for help after coming to this country on the paper nailed to the pole it said Brockton. I like Miss Puerto Rico this year, especially after she sprays herself with pepper spray, shes hot. The Dad Fisherman 12-14-2007, 11:22 PM Been there a couple of Times...Puerto Rico had the MOST Beautiful Women I had ever seen....Seriously. Tanned , Long Black Hair, Built like there was no tomorrow......and I thought Norway was the nuts. Just stay away from the Black Angus... Raider Ronnie 12-15-2007, 07:29 AM dorchester - brockton take your pick !!! cheferson 12-15-2007, 09:04 AM Never been there, but their moonshine is killer!!! Best stuff ive had. Guy i work with is PR and his family mails him up a gallon every month or so.:gu: chris L 12-15-2007, 12:29 PM I dated a puerto rican once . man was she hot . long black hair built perfectly . man she was hot fishsmith 12-15-2007, 05:40 PM the island off the coast - Veacus however you spell it is a nice place from what I hear. Vieques is the island that we used to use as target practice with the 5" gun, man I can't count the hours we spend going back and forth shooting at targets. I don't think the Navy uses it any more for that. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8e/5-54-Mark-45-firing_edit.jpg/300px-5-54- Old San Juan is very nice, with casinos and resorts, but you take a 10 minute ride and it's dirt poor. If you want to veg on a beach, I can't say enough good things about the island St. John, it's the nicest place I've ever been. justplugit 12-15-2007, 05:53 PM I live only probably 10 miles away but I do try to avoid it. I got jury duty in Jan. in Brockton though Avoid Brockton  They have the infamous Puppie Palace where you can get Goldendoodles and Labdoodles. :hihi: Tagger 12-15-2007, 08:06 PM I love Brockton and most the people in it ... If I didn't want to live closer to the water I'd spend the rest of my days here ... Go Rox !! fishbones 12-16-2007, 12:15 AM I live only probably 10 miles away but I do try to avoid it. I got jury duty in Jan. in Brockton though You live in Lakeville and get jury duty in Brockton. I live in Easton and get jury duty in New Bedford. Go figure.... As for Peurto Rico, there are some decent casinos and restaurants in the old part of San Juan, but if you want a nice tropical vacation go to the island of Culebra. It's a small island off the Puerto Rican coast. It's very quiet and relaxing. Mike P 12-16-2007, 10:13 AM You live in Lakeville and get jury duty in Brockton. I live in Easton and get jury duty in New Bedford. Go figure.... Those pesky county lines will get you every time ;) ProfessorM 12-16-2007, 10:58 AM Ed, you live in the city of champions... closer to water?.. think about it.. fairly close to the canal, south shore, north shore, Rhody, the cape (seal fishing).. you are living in fish central... equadistant trips... "Enjoy What You Have" (clammer):kewl: I agree Ed we are central to everyplace. I am no more than 25 miles to the water in all 3 directions. Perfect if you ask me. Brockton is ok by me. There is bad everywhere. I think George must have had money on a few of Rocky M.'s opponents to hate the city of champions like he does, or just miserable from the plague he is fighting right now as I saw a hacking reasonable facsimile of him yesterday Thanks guys for the response's on PR. Just looking to do a little relaxing with the family for a week in a warm climate, not schlep all over the place, although a little culture would be nice , rain forest and old San Juan. I really wanted to go back to St. Johns, Virgin Islands but way too expensive and takes forever to get there. PR is a direct flight so you are not wasting a whole day to and fro traveling, nice if you are only going for a week. Slingah 12-16-2007, 11:18 AM Paul...me and wifey went to Dominican Republic last winter...great resort, beach, food, people and the price was right too.. http://www.iberostar.com/EN/Bayahibe-hotels/Iberostar-Hacienda-Dominicus_3_73.html ProfessorM 12-16-2007, 12:49 PM Thanks Matt. looks nice, especially as i just got in from shoveling slush. Thanks I will tell the wife to look into it. Did you go all inclusive? Slingah 12-16-2007, 02:04 PM ya...it's an all-inclusive place...look for deals in the paper....GWV I believe....we went for short money we also went to costa rica for low dough...not all inclusive, but could have been if we wanted....rented a car and drove to volcanos and rainforest....I loved Costa Rica...friendly people too http://www.villassol.com/ PaulS 12-17-2007, 11:13 AM I've been a few times and stayed in Condando. Old San Juan is nice. We'd spend most of our time at the Marriot resorts. Lots of crime. Cars drive thru red lights at night b/c its so dangerous to stop that you'll get car jacked. On highways, cars pass you in the break down lanes no matter how fast your going. Same as anywhere else, if you go to parts of town that are dangerous, you'll get in trouble.
